Hello Sector Commanders,

We have been working hard toward our Early Alpha release, and we are still improving NGC-404: Fractured Sector based on your feedback.

This time, we want to show some of the latest visual changes and improvements we have been working on.

The main focus of this update was presentation. We wanted the galaxy to feel more alive, combat to look more satisfying, and the map to be easier to read as you move between tactical and strategic gameplay.

New Planets, Stars and Background

First, we completely replaced the old planet and star sprites.

Planets and stars are now proceduraly generated when the galaxy is created. This means you should never see two of them looking exactly the same.

We currently have nine different planet types, each with its own visual characteristics.

Stars have also received a complete visual update, and we added a brand new space background to better support the new look of the galaxy.Together, these changes make exploration feel more varied and help each system feel more distinct.

The new planet system gives us much more visual variety than before.

Instead of relying on a small set of fixed sprites, planets are now generated with different surface details, colors, and visual characteristics when the galaxy is created.Even planets of the same type can look different from one another.

This helps the galaxy feel less repetitive and gives each discovered system its own identity.

Reworked Combat Effects

We have also reworked several combat effects.

This includes new engine effects, improved explosions, and reworked weapon visuals.

We also added new weapon types, including beams, lasers, and blasters.

Each effect is designed to make combat more readable and more satisfying to watch. Weapons should feel clearer, impacts should feel stronger, and battles should have more visual energy without becoming too hard to follow.

Engine Effects and Explosions

Ship engines have received new visual effects to better communicate movement, acceleration, and fleet motion.Explosions have also been improved, making destroyed ships and combat impacts feel more powerful and noticeable during battle.

These changes are especially important in larger fights, where small visual details can quickly get lost. Our goal is to make combat feel more alive while keeping the battlefield readable.

Map and HUD Improvements

The map has also received a major update.

You can now transition seamlessly between the tactical and strategic view simply by zooming in and out. This makes it much easier to move from close combat control to a broader overview of the sector without switching between separate screens.

We have also added new icons and updated parts of the HUD, making it easier to understand what is happening across the galaxy at a glance.

Hyperspace Effects

Hyperspace travel has received new visual effects.Ships now look more immersive when entering and leaving hyperspace, making long-distance travel feel more like an important part of the world building.

This is still part of our ongoing work on travel presentation, but the new effects already make fleet movement across the galaxy feel much better.

Formation System

We have also added a new formation system.

Ships can now maintain proper formations while travelling together, instead of collapsing into a messy group or overlapping during movement.

It also gives larger fleets a stronger sense of structure and weight as they move through the sector.

Why This Matters

A lot of this update is focused on how the game feels.

The systems underneath NGC-404: Fractured Sector are becoming more complex, but presentation is just as important. Players need to understand what is happening on the screen, where ships are moving, what weapons are firing, and how the galaxy is changing around them.

Better visuals are not only about making the game look nicer.

They also make the game easier to read, easier to understand, and more satisfying to play.

What Comes Next

These are just some of the changes we have been working on as we continue moving toward Early Alpha.

Next, we will continue improving visual clarity, combat feedback, fleet behavior, and the overall presentation of the game.

There is still a lot of work ahead, but this update is another step toward making the sector feel more alive, readable, and polished.

Let us know what you think about the new look in the comments.

As always, thank you for following the development of NGC-404: Fractured Sector.

Community3 Aug 2026NGC-404 The Great Economy ReworkHello Sector Commanders, For the past four weeks, we have been rebuilding the entire economy of NGC-404: Fractured Sector . This has been one of the largest systemic changes we have worked on so far. The goal was simple: make the economy feel like something that actually exists inside the game world, not just a set of numbers moving in the background. Previously, trade was mostly abstract. Over the last few weeks, we received a lot of useful community feedback about our ships and combat presentation. We took that feedback seriously and went back to improve several visual parts of NGC-404: Fractured Sector. Reworked Ship…
