The Shelter

Hello, Hikers! This cursed forest is constantly changing, but it’s not just changing on its own – you’re the ones changing it. We carefully study every piece of feedback, every suggestion and every expedition report. It is thanks to your feedback that the game takes on its true form. Did you ask for a place where you could catch your breath and regroup before venturing deeper into the thicket? We’ve heard you. And here’s what came of it. We’ve added Shelter – the new starting location in Deadhikers. After creating a game, players now spawn here, where they can properly prepare before heading out on expeditions.

Welcome to the Shelter

Inside, players will meet various story NPCs, each with their own role in the larger narrative and ongoing investigation. Main features:

  • Expedition Map – choose the direction of your next expedition.

  • Character Progression – experience is earned during missions. Leveling up grants talent points, which can be spent in the Hub by approaching the bookshelves.

  • Trading – buy useful items that will help you survive in the forest. You can earn currency during expeditions; there are various ways to earn it, and it is safely stored once the expeditions are successfully completed.

  • Character Selection – you can change your character by interacting with the door to the Rest Room.

The Shelter has become the central point between expeditions – a place where you can regroup, improve your character, and choose where to challenge the forest next. What mysterious locations would you like to see in the world of Deadhikers in the future? Share your ideas in the comments. Get ready for new expeditions, Hikers.

Sometimes it is a torn tent, a river that lasts longer than your strength, or a cloud of insects that will not let you think. Here is what changed. Tents can now be repaired after they are destroyed. The camp is not lost – you can stretch the canvas back up and get the fire going again. Swim…Community26 Aug 2026Devs Diary #16Atmosphere Lies in the Details Hello, Hikers! One of the most important aspects of creating a believable and tense atmosphere comes down to something players might not even consciously notice – the sensations experienced when firing a weapon, reloading it, dressing a wound or eating tinned food. We've paid particular attention to the quality of the animations, striving to make every action as r…Community6 Aug 2026Devs Diary #15Hello, Hikers! The forest never sleeps. Whilst you're building a fire and counting the steps to the nearest shelter, something out there, amongst the trees, is changing too. It's becoming smarter. Hungrier. Here's the latest on the forest's inhabitants. BARKERS New type: Night Barkers As the sun sets, creatures previously unseen appear in the forest. Night Barkers are more resilient than their…
