Class Guide #2 - The Warrior

Manala · published

The warrior has no special cards. That is the point.

Every other class in Manala leans on one signature move. The mage has spells, the healer has the touch, the smith has his hands, the alchemist has his powders. The warrior brought a sword and the confidence to stand in front of you with it.

What it has instead of a trick:

  • The highest base damage of the five. The hardest honest swing in the game

  • The top armor tier. It wears more than anything else can chew through

  • Guard Stance. Pick up a large shield and you soak the hits your party can't. Standing in the way is a full-time job and the warrior is built for it

Gear is your deck, so the warrior is three characters

Your build lives in your gear slots, not on a level-up screen. Change what you are holding and the whole deck changes with it:

  • Sword and shield. Block, Shield Bash and Guard Stance come online

  • Two-hander. Cleave wakes up and your Attack re-adjusts to seven (the biggest single hit in the game)

  • Spear: You keep them at reach and you hit first

Warrior or Smith?

The smith is the bigger wall: twenty hit points to your ten, the same iron armor. But the smith cannot drink a healing potion, and you can. He out-lasts you standing still. You out-last him in a long fight.

Nothing here scales

You have somewhere between 5HP and 20HP points and the biggest hit in Manala is fourteen. When every number is single-digit, a class that reliably lands 7HP is spooky. And a brigand somebody already chipped down to 3HP does not get another turn.

Timelines
