Hello to all ant colonies!

The next major part of the underground update is the introduction of new enemies and changes to how underground spiders are generated.

Currently, spiders spawn one or two per cave, and after just a few locations, they stop being a serious threat. At the same time, we really like the mechanics of underground enemies: it works well, creates tension, and makes the underground more fun. Therefore, we decided to develop it further.

Termites and Spiders

The first thing we did was add underground termites to the semi-desert. They are much less dangerous than spiders, but they settle in large groups, and their glowing eyes in the dark are hard to miss. Termites have become a great tutorial enemy: they help players gradually understand how to fight underground foes.Once the player is ready, underground spiders appear. They are much more dangerous than termites: just two spiders can kill the queen if she is left unprotected. At first, spiders spawn just like before—one or two at a time, and there aren't too many of them in the underground. But after a few locations, players will occasionally stumble into caves with significantly more spiders. They nest in groups, and defending against them becomes a separate challenge for the colony.

Yes, that's her, really her

Once we saw that the difficulty curve was smoothing out nicely, it became clear: we were ready to add the spider you've been asking for for a very long time.

The wolf spider lives alone in the underground to raise her offspring. We think you've already seen videos of spiders on the internet and can guess what happens if you crush a female spider carrying her spiderlings. If you want to stay up to date with all the updates - join our Discord community! These changes are gradually bringing us closer to adding underground episodes, and in the future, underground bases or spawners. This was the final post about the underground update. Next week we will talk about a global overhaul of one of the locations.

In-game event4 Sep 2026Dev Diary #7: New Mountain Location DesignHello to all ant colonies! It's time to talk about the design of the new locations. Four new episodes went through many stages of technical and artistic design. We assembled each map from different control zones, placed creatures where they would actually settle in nature, and distributed food sources so that capturing different areas of the map would bring tangible benefits to the colony. In a…In-game event28 Aug 2026Dev Diary #6: The First Ranged EnemyHello to all ant colonies! This is the bombardier beetle. When we added a ranged unit to the game, a huge number of players sent us this exact insect and suggested adding it. Yes, we are adding it. It's awesome. Shooting is a completely new mechanic for our game, so we are introducing it carefully. First, we test how it works in various game situations, and only then do we expand its use. We ha…In-game event21 Aug 2026Dev Diary #5: Map EventsHello to all ant colonies! One of the main new features is map events. This idea was inspired by the spiders from the marble quarry: sometimes they could eat their neighbors or even a raid that was heading towards the player. It looked unexpected, alive, and very funny. We decided to develop this mechanic and teach enemies to interact with each other. At the same time, we deliberately did not t…
