UPDATE

Hey everyone!

We just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you who took the time to share your thoughts on the use of AI for voiceovers. We're genuinely glad we opened the conversation.

Our team have never used AI and we only considered AI for voiceovers because we don't have the budget for it. And we came to you with it first. The majority of the community has clearly spoken out against AI even in this minority use, and we're glad you're in favor of the no voiceover option. So don't worry, no AI voiceovers will be used.

If we are able to increase the budget in the future, we'll try to hire a voiceartist and add voiceovers then.

Your

Rake in Grass team

We wanted to talk a bit about something that’s been on many minds lately: the use of AI in game development.

At Underkeep, we’ve chosen to avoid AI for visuals as much as possible. All our artwork is hand-drawn or hand-polished, even in cases where we start with a rough template. It’s slower, maybe even old-fashioned, but we believe in respecting the craft and the artists behind it. While many big studios have embraced AI without hesitation, we prefer to stick closer to the roots.

That said, we are experimenting with AI in a very limited way - specifically for voiceovers. The quality might not be perfect, but we think it's good enough to create a satisfying and immersive experience. We are thinking about it also because we are a small team our budget is very limited.

Right now, we’re testing two versions of the narrator: one male, one female. You can listen to both here – and tell us which one feels better for Underkeep. Any clear comment counts toward the final decision.

Drop a comment here, on our Rake in Grass Discord or in the video's comment section.

And of course, if you have any thoughts about AI in games, we’d love to hear them. Your feedback matters.

So – which voice feels more "Underkeep" to you? Let us know!

Community21 Jul 2026The Road to ReleaseWe have some exciting news. Underkeep is now playable from beginning to end. The only bad news? For now, only we get to play it. Every major area, dungeon, and story chapter is now in place. While plenty of polishing remains, the entire adventure can finally be played from start to finish. That also means internal beta testing has officially begun. We spend our days doing things that are far le…Community30 May 2026Closer to the DepthsWe Are Getting There. Almost. We are slowly approaching the point where we can finally talk about a release date. Not just yet. But we are getting closer. A Lot Has Changed Since the Demo Since Next Fest, Underkeep has grown quite a bit. Not only in content, but also in atmosphere, systems, encounters, and overall identity. Some parts of the game became darker. Some stranger. Some things are be…Community19 Apr 2026Underkeep - News From the DepthsOnce again, thank you to everyone who played the demo during Steam Next Fest and took the time to share your thoughts. The feedback, bug reports, balance suggestions, and discussions on the forums have been incredibly helpful. Of course, not every suggestion can make it into the final game, but your feedback helps us clearly see which topics matter most to the community. Here is a short summary…
