Hi,

I am pleased to present Patch 0.14 - the last content patch before Early Access release. This patch adds two new playable provinces: Mauretania and Africa, each with its own historical narrative, missions, and Provincial Spirits, with campaigns built around the Strait of Gibraltar, the wealth of Carthage, the African grain trade, and the struggle for control of the western Mediterranean. I have also added Steam achievements in this patch.

After this patch, I am focused on playtesting, balancing, polishing rough edges, and improving performance. The demo build is also updated - with Lugdunensis, Africa, Italia + one rotating province available for free. Give it a try and report bugs - I appreciate the help!

The free demo will remain available after early access, with Lugdunensis + one rotating province available to try out for free.

Two New Playable Provinces

Mauretania and Africa are now available for new runs and Rebirth. Both receive an additional 100 Governing Capacity to support their campaigns across the broad territories and sea lanes of Roman Africa.

Mauretania: Between Ocean and Inland Frontier

Mauretania receives ten historical events following the Bavares crossing the frontier, Maximian's Atlas campaign, the first Council of Cirta, the Macarian mission, the return of the Donatists, the revolt of Firmus, the collapse of Gildo's cause, the siege and treaty of Hippo Regius, and the provinces left beyond the Vandal settlement.

Its six missions connect the African and Hispanic shores of the Strait of Gibraltar, reward the conquest of Baetica, offer the chance to purchase Palma, open an eastward campaign into Africa, and ultimately carry Mauretanian power toward Sardinia and Sicilia. A sufficiently large Mauretania can also claim the right to conquer Africa directly.

Mauretania has three Provincial Spirits:

  • The Two Shores - Gain +30% Land Tax while Baelo and Tingi are annexed and cored.
  • Moorish Muster - Gain +5% War Power for every 10 core tiles.
  • Maritime Renown - Gain +1% Prestige for each core coastal tile, up to +50%.

Africa: Granary of the Empire

Africa receives ten historical events centered on Perpetua and Felicity, Cyprian of Carthage, the martyrs of Abitina, the earthquake of 365 A.D., Gildo's grain blockade, the Conference of Carthage, Heraclian's armada, the Vandal land settlement, the charity of Deogratias, and the fire ships at Cape Bon.

Its five missions can bring Sardinia and Corsica peacefully under African protection, launch invasions of Sicilia and Italia, or transform a large realm into a more inclusive state. Africa's choices emphasize trade, grain, coastal administration, and control of the central Mediterranean.

Africa has three Provincial Spirits:

  • Littoral Tax Districts - Gain +1% Land Tax on all tiles for each core coastal tile with at least three coastal edges.
  • Mercantile Mobilization - Gain +10% War Power for each active trade.
  • Granary of the Empire - Gain +1% Tile Output on all tiles for each core tile producing Grain, up to +50%.

Steam Achievements

14 Steam achievements are now available, covering the tutorial, diplomacy, warfare, Rebirth, religion, and major campaign milestones:

  • The Die Is Cast - Complete the tutorial.
  • Casus Belli - Declare war on another province.
  • Rome Reborn - Begin a new run through Rebirth.
  • Woe to the Vanquished - Win a war and gain at least one tile.
  • The Walls Hold - End a defensive war without losing any tiles.
  • Bound by Treaty - Form an alliance.
  • Under Our Protection - Make another province a client.
  • First Among Equals - Become a Great Power.
  • Empire Without End - Successfully demand a tile.

  • In This Sign - Convert the province to Christianity.
  • All Hispania - Complete the Hispania United mission.
  • Postumus's Legacy - Proclaim the Gallic Empire.
  • The Last Emperor - Complete An Empire Ends in Silence.

Balance and Fixes

  • Starting tile upgrades is now distributed more consistently across provinces.
  • Update tutorial text to reflect the update mechanics.
  • Fixed researched technologies sometimes failing to unlock their associated manufactured goods and timed actions.
  • Fixed NPC provinces becoming too passive and failing to evaluate and declare wars.
  • Clergy and Military candidates are now available when seeking a local spouse, alongside Senate, Equites, and Plebs candidates.
