Dev Log #3

Hello, everyone. I’m the level designer of the LaserZone. I hope you are having a good day.

It’s been 3 weeks since we posted the announcement about delaying the game’s release. As promised back then, I’m here to relay information about what’s going on in our project before June arrives.

Game, Ready for Testing

Our project build folder, including the working .exe file.

Let’s cut to the chase.
We’ve completed a game version for the upcoming second Focus Group Test (or FGT).
This version is intended to become the release version if we don’t receive critical feedback during the second FGT.

That’s basically the gist of this Dev Log. But if you want more details, please continue reading.

A 3-Week Schedule for Improving the Game

We’ve been using a new project-management program called “Monday”.

After the first FGT, these are the four main goals we’ve been attempting to accomplish:

  1. Reducing action/control difficulty in Chapter 4~6
  2. Getting rid of as many bugs as possible
  3. Improving controllability for UI and in-game actions
  4. Implementing a feature that teaches new mechanics for players

We also wanted to address relatively less-urgent tasks such as improving animations, refining English translations, and sound design within the milestone.

Monday tells us our completion rate for the latest version is at 95.9%. 94 out of 98 tasks have been done, and the rest is something that we couldn’t wrap up in time.
Fortunately, those tasks aren’t critical enough to delay the game’s release (again). We’ll take a look at them after the test is done.

Right now, we are ready to start the second FGT which will take around 2~3 days. For this FGT, our biggest interest is to receive reports of technical errors that were somehow overlooked during the last 3 weeks of development.

Other members have tested new features, and I did play the game from start to finish. We found and corrected the last critical bug two days ago, so we are expecting the game to fully function.
We’ll also ask our testers if the aforementioned 4 goals have been met.

Closing

If the general consensus from our testers is positive, then we will hire an outsource for a new trailer, and ship the game once we receive the video.

That’s it for today!
I’ll return when we decided what to do after the second FGT.
Thank you for reading, and stay healthy in this global pandemic.

Signing off,
Jung Hwan Hwang
