MISFORTUNATE Update - Steam Build 25026600 - v0.4.0 Alpha - Discord Integration

MISFORTUNATE is getting more connected.

Version 0.4.0 Alpha introduces our first major Discord integration, allowing your activity in MISFORTUNATE to appear directly on Discord while laying the groundwork for a more connected multiplayer experience.

Friends can now see when you're playing, what part of the game you're in, and - when you're waiting in an eligible multiplayer lobby - join through Discord using MISFORTUNATE's existing Steam multiplayer system.

Discord Rich Presence

MISFORTUNATE can now publish live activity information to Discord while you play.

• Show MISFORTUNATE as your active game on Discord.
• Presence updates as you move between the Main Menu, Multiplayer, Lobby and active gameplay.
• Multiplayer activity can display the current session type and player count.
• Dedicated MISFORTUNATE Rich Presence artwork is now supported.
• Presence information uses your currently selected in-game language.

Whether you're preparing a lobby or already deep into a match, your Discord friends can now get a much clearer picture of what you're doing in MISFORTUNATE.

Join Through Discord

Eligible multiplayer staging lobbies can now expose a Join Game action through Discord.

When a friend joins through Discord, MISFORTUNATE routes that request through the existing Steam lobby system rather than introducing a separate networking layer.

This means the same multiplayer safeguards still apply:

• Steam remains responsible for multiplayer networking and lobby membership.
• Normal MISFORTUNATE build compatibility checks still apply.
• Full lobbies will not advertise themselves as joinable.
• Active matches do not expose a Discord Join action.
• Saved-match resume lobbies remain reserved for their existing players.

Discord joining does not bypass Steam lobby access rules.

A player must still be permitted to access the underlying Steam lobby.

Built Around Existing Multiplayer

Discord has been introduced as a social layer rather than a replacement for MISFORTUNATE's existing multiplayer architecture.

Steam remains authoritative for:

• Lobby creation and membership
• Player identity
• Multiplayer transport
• Build compatibility
• Session joining

This allows Discord functionality to sit cleanly on top of the systems already used by multiplayer games.

Platform Support

The Discord integration has been designed to fail safely when the required Discord SDK support is unavailable.

• Windows - Discord integration supported.
• Linux - Discord integration supported where the required native bindings are available.
• macOS - MISFORTUNATE continues to run normally, but Discord Rich Presence is currently unavailable while we await compatible native Godot bindings.

The macOS limitation affects Discord functionality only and does not prevent the game itself from running or participating in Steam multiplayer.

Under the Hood

A number of supporting improvements were made as part of the new Discord system.

• Added a dedicated Discord integration manager.
• Added safe detection for missing or unsupported Discord SDK bindings.
• Added Discord activity lifecycle handling and callback processing.
• Added versioned Discord lobby join data.
• Discord joins now reuse the existing Steam invite and compatibility flow.
• Added safeguards preventing active matches and resume sessions from being advertised as open lobbies.
• Improved startup handling and error resilience around the Discord integration.

The Beginning of MISFORTUNATE's Social Features

This is the first stage of Discord integration for MISFORTUNATE.

The new system establishes the foundation for further social functionality as development continues, while keeping the game's existing Steam multiplayer systems intact.
