This update substantially expands the Crafted Dice system, allowing dice powers to work together in far more combinations while improving how multi-roll turns, Events and forced movement are resolved.
We've also addressed several payment, Portal, regional interaction and Item issues reported during multiplayer games.
🎲 Crafted Dice Overhaul
Crafted travel dice have received a major overhaul.
- Multiple dice powers can now be combined into the same roll, respecting the six-slot Crafted Dice power limit.
- Interactions between Extra, Reverse, 2-Turn, 1-2, Rigged, Doubles, Triples, Blank and Gold dice powers are now supported.
- 2-Turn Dice now correctly support chained and nested additional turns.
- Items can be used between eligible 2-Turn Dice sub-turns.
- Multiple independently selectable Crafted Dice powers can now be resolved correctly within the same roll.
- Rigged Dice can work with eligible subsets of a multi-die loadout when determining the required total.
- Rigged Dice correctly observes its special restrictions when travelling within Town and Libya.
- Re-Rolls now reproduce the exact Crafted Dice loadout being re-rolled.
- Reverse Dice now correctly continues through Combo roll sequences.
- Gold Dice correctly scores across multi-die combinations.
- Combo effects are resolved before any remaining 2-Turn Dice rolls continue.
- Expanded Combo recognition ensures Crafted Doubles and Triples combinations are classified correctly.
🔄 Multi-Turn & Forced Movement Fixes
Several complicated interactions between Crafted Dice and Events have been hardened.
- An earned second 2-Turn Dice roll is no longer lost when the first roll triggers mandatory Event movement.
- Mandatory Event travel now resolves first before returning the player to their remaining Crafted Dice roll.
- Queued Event movement and nested 2-Turn Dice entitlements are preserved correctly.
- Forced reverse movement from Events no longer incorrectly creates the Crafted Reverse Dice No Honey status.
- Reverse Event travel still correctly prevents the immediate Honey reward when passing START or CHECKPOINT.
- Actual Crafted Reverse Dice continue to apply their intended No Honey penalty.
💰 Payments, Tolls & Forfeiture
Payment recovery has been improved to give players more control while ensuring debts cannot simply disappear.
- Usable toll-response Items remain available through USE ITEM before liquidation occurs.
- This remains available even when the player currently cannot afford the toll.
- Sell / Downgrade remains available as an explicit recovery option.
- Automatic liquidation is deferred while a usable toll-response Item is available.
- Normal automatic recovery remains available where no usable response Item exists.
- Flag and Crystal toll interactions continue to operate normally.
🏚️ Unit Toll Forfeiture
Forfeiting while unable to pay a Unit toll now properly accounts for the player's recoverable assets.
- A player can no longer forfeit an unpaid Unit toll while retaining value that could legitimately contribute towards the debt.
- Recoverable assets are settled before the team forfeiture completes.
- Honey uses the normal Bank conversion rate during settlement.
- Eligible Shop and retained Event Items use their existing resale values.
- Units can be downgraded and sold using their legitimate recovery values.
- The Unit owner receives as much of the outstanding toll as the insolvent player can actually recover, up to the full amount owed.
⚖️ BURDEN Payment Fix
The BURDEN Event and similar pay-every-player effects now correctly enforce their payment.
- Having insufficient Tokens no longer causes the Event payment to be skipped.
- Players who cannot currently afford the payment enter the normal mandatory-payment recovery flow.
- They can sell, downgrade or trade to raise the required Tokens.
- Once sufficient funds are available, the complete payment is made to every applicable player before the Event continues.
- Team forfeiture now also resolves the waiting Event correctly.
🌀 Portal Improvements
Portal interactions are now much friendlier when your wallet doesn't quite match your travel ambitions.
- Players landing on a Portal can now sell or downgrade assets while deciding how to fund Portal travel.
- Portal destination affordability updates as the player's Token balance changes.
- Inventory management remains available to the player currently resolving the Portal.
- Existing REST and voluntary Portal behaviour remains unchanged.
🧭 Portal Maker Route Fix
- Using Portal Maker to travel to Portal 40 / Space30 no longer removes the Town route decision.
- Players arriving there can correctly choose between the Egypt and Sundaland routes.
- Other Portal Maker destinations and direct travel Items retain their normal behaviour.
💎 Regional & Item Fixes
Several interactions involving Gems, Pearl and Titanium have been corrected.
- Added the missing Gold Element regional Gem Totem interaction.
- Pearl can now be activated while purchasing Items from a Shop.
- Pearl is only consumed after the discounted purchase actually succeeds.
- Pearl's description has been updated across supported languages to better reflect its behaviour.
- A Gold Gem enhanced with Titanium is now correctly valued at 1,000 Tokens.
- Using PICK-UP on Titanium now removes the Titanium enhancement without incorrectly removing the underlying Unit upgrade.
🛠️ Stability & Multiplayer
This update also contains additional regression protection and multiplayer-state handling around the systems changed above.
Particular attention has been given to complicated combinations involving chained Dice effects, Event movement, payments, Portal interactions and authoritative multiplayer state so these systems can complete without losing pending actions.
📌 Version Update
Misfortunate has now advanced to:
0.5.2 Alpha
Steam Build 25280802
Thank you to everyone continuing to test the Alpha and report the strange combinations that only become possible once several of Misfortunate's systems collide.
The increasingly creative ways you've found to break the game are helping us make it considerably harder to break. 🎲
