Over the past few weeks, I spent a lot of time on refinement.

Here's what all of this "refinement" has boiled down to.

  • You can now grapple and throw enemies (tutorials have been added)

  • Play violin along with the background music almost anywhere, even boss fights

  • Improved the rimlighting effect

  • Reduced lensflare opacity, now it's very subtle

  • Perlin Noise on bright spots of light makes lighting look more dynamic

  • Bloom on the highest setting now has a second pass of bloom that enhances bright spots while leaving the darker spots alone

  • Removed lots of sprites as a result of the new rimlighting shaders, huge save on memory/vram

  • Per character diffuse lighting improvements

  • Water edges are brighter now and give a visual to the shoreline (Really helps makes fluids more readable)

  • The Crystal Subway music got another pass and so sounds a bit better imo

  • Fixed a few quest related bugs

  • Cutscenes don't partially trigger from completing quest objectives anymore

For once I will include a few screenshots to show off some of the new visuals! All of these new visuals are fairly subtle but definitely notable once you see it on your own screen.

I spent a lot of this update digging into performance, and it paid off: Verlet physics, inventory, chunking, and lighting all got serious speedups, so the whole game should feel a lot smoother now, especially with the framerate finally uncapped. Beyond that, I added a new save slots system, fresh main menu art for Act 1, 21 new items, reworked item descriptions, new cu…
