This is our first patch since release! Thanks to everyone who reached out to share their problems and suggestions for Kaleidos!

New

  • A new bundled collection - "Red-Hot", six patterns across all three noise types

  • TILE - a switch in the export dialog: the image or video you export meets itself when you lay copies out as a grid - left edge into right, top into bottom. Settings that block tiling: polar coordinates, centered warps and rotation. Reaction Diffusion tiles too, with its own limitations

  • HEX/RGB input - the color picker now has an entry row

  • Intel Macs could not export video - and now they can. As a tradeoff, Kaleidos is now 30 MB larger. We'll split the builds per architecture in the future

Fixes

  • A pattern name with a shell character (such as $, /, `, ") killed the export on macOS. The same happened if the user's profile name contained any of those characters

  • The reaction ran at your monitor's refresh rate - it now runs on real time instead

  • Gallery cards and previews showed the wrong part of a warped pattern

  • Cell click interaction landed in the wrong place when ROTATE was not 0

  • REPEL pushed the wrong way

  • Reaction Diffusion MIX size ignored SIM SCALE

  • The enlarged preview of a Reaction Diffusion pattern never held still

  • Ukrainian "Радіальний" and "Випадково" were too long for their buttons

We also want to thank everyone who bought Kaleidos. The response went far beyond what we expected! Our roadmap before release did not have many major features on it, but after your feedback and support we may well extend our plans for Kaleidos

Video exports · Looped video - you can now export a seamless video and use it as an animated texture with no visible cut! The downside is that the math behind the shaders doesn't allow just any length: each pattern has a minimum duration its loop can close at, and the export dialog shows it f…
