Three fixes, including a crash on Linux

A small update: three fixes for problems in 1.5.0 and earlier, all from your reports. Thank you for sending them.

Lights are picked up where they are drawn

A light's handle is drawn in the middle of the pixel the light sits on, but a click was tested against that pixel's corner. On large artwork the difference was a fraction of a screen pixel. On pixel art zoomed in, the spot that picked a light up sat above and to the left of its handle, and at the highest zoom a click on the handle missed it altogether. A light also moved half a pixel each time it was picked up. Now a click on the handle picks the light up at any zoom, and it stays where it was until you drag it.

A slider goes to zero and back

Follow overall form, Flatten interior, the detail methods and a light's Intensity each have a checkbox. Dragging one of their sliders to zero used to switch the setting off and lock the slider, so bringing it back meant ticking the box first. Now the box is the switch and the slider is the amount. Drag to zero and straight back up. Untick the box to switch the setting off, and tick it again to bring it back at the value it had.

A crash on Linux

On Linux under Proton, the editor could close by itself a few seconds after it opened. It came from the way the window was set up to take dropped files, and the editor now leaves dropped files to the page, as the website does. Thank you to the tester whose logs found it.

Worth knowing

  • The pointer can still vanish under Proton. On some Linux systems the mouse pointer is invisible over the editor. That is a separate problem, in how Proton shows a pointer set by the embedded browser the editor is drawn in, and it is not fixed yet.

For testers

If the app is already in your library, Steam will offer this build. Start it from your Steam library. A copy started some other way asks Steam to relaunch it. The About dialog should read 1.5.1.

The knight sprite is from rodrigodmoreira/nmap-generation and is used under the MIT License.

Community9 Oct 2026Live updates that keep up, and a prompt before unsaved work is lostPublic release is still December 3. Almost everything in this build came from sitting with a tester while they worked, so thank you to them, and to everyone sending reports. This post covers two builds: 1.6.0 rebuilt Split and started a native Linux build, and 1.6.1 puts the batch tool on the graphics card and gives the Linux editor one to solve on. Split, side by side Split used to be one picture divided by a line you could move, with the normal map on one side of it and the lit result on the other. Now it is two panes: the normal…Community3 Oct 2026Straps, sleeves and limbs that join the bodyPublic release is still December. This build lets a part stand partly in front of what it crosses: a limb, a strap or a sleeve that is in front along most of its length and joins the body at one end. In front, at any strength In front used to be all or nothing. A part was wholly in front of what it crossed, or it was not in front at all. Now how strongly you paint it is how far in front it stan…
