Cleanup Update (v81)
This update is a broad cleanup build focused on armor math, early-game balance, dungeon readability, quest text, item behavior, and several long-standing rough edges.
Combat And Balance Cleanup
- Reworked ARM mitigation so low armor now matters. Armor uses stochastic rounding instead of hard integer breakpoints, with effective ARM capped at 90%.
- Paladins, fighters, clerics, and dwarves now start with shield proficiency where appropriate.
- Iron Helm is now +1 DEF, +3 ARM.
- Mail armor was nudged upward so chain-style armor better justifies its weight and price.
- Elite monsters are now much tankier, spawn slightly more often, and get better loot rolls.
- First Aid now scales correctly: bandages use rank plus WIS/2, and kits use rank*2 plus WIS.
- Hunger drains about 10% faster.
- Training dummy HP was reduced by 20%.
- Alarm traps are now fully unavoidable, while other traps keep partial avoidability.
- Channeling labels no longer double up, and the first channeling tick now lasts longer so short channels are easier to read.
World And Dungeon Polish
- Added a new King's Barrow surface floor with a maintained but overgrown royal tomb exterior, marble terrain, and a gated marble crypt entrance.
- Organic caves, especially Goblin Cave-style layouts, are windier and less manmade.
- Rubble-heavy areas now sometimes break nearby wall tiles so rubble reads more like collapsed structure.
- Undiscovered pits and secret doors now blend into their surrounding floor and wall visuals.
- Trees still block movement, but no longer block vision.
- Caves in the Hills and Hunter Clearing world-map icons were recolored.
- Burned Cottage basement wolf prespawns were reduced from 4 to 2.
- Skrit is now kept on the Abandoned Mine final floor so the Havenford Watch mine quest can complete properly.
Items, Shops, And Inventory
- Torch throwing is now supported as a one-shot fire attack, including oil synergy on oiled enemies.
- Full-durability cheap lockpicks now stack correctly.
- Fixed an unknown-item identity issue where items could look unknown on pickup but known in inventory.
- Inventory examine now keeps the correct cursor position across repeated examines.
- Vendor examine now gives a simple Not enough money status error instead of opening a confirm popup.
- Tessa's Trail stock is more tool-focused and less armor-heavy.
- Cheap shop supplies and tools can now appear in small quantities instead of always as single items.
- Ring prices were reduced, and non-+1 elemental or special weapons now price their special effect more fairly.
- Barrel loot now gives slightly more torches and fewer kits.
- Save slot level display and filename refresh after leveling were fixed.
Quests, Text, And Object Cleanup
- Camp kits now prevent wilderness ambushes entirely, and related survival text was cleaned up.
- Decoys are now directional placed objects with HP that enemies can target like real combat distractions.
- Smite Strike and other class tricks now clear Guard Breck's class quest when used.
- Stonecleft gate warden now waits for Blackfall Burrow completion before opening the gate.
- The ruined watchtower key and Traveller's Rest route directions are clearer in dialogue and journal text.
- Smuggler quest hand-in dialogue and journal text were rewritten and cleaned up.
- Several terse quest journal entries were expanded into clearer diary-style summaries.
- Spell resist text now follows the standard syntax, with roll math kept to message log detail.
- Vethrin now appears in the Havenford tavern instead of standing in the road.
- Chest and container naming was standardized again, including fixes for casing issues like wooden Chest.
- Door behavior was migrated to prop state, improving consistency for player actions, monsters, visibility, look text, tools, items, spells, and procgen reachability.
Save version remains 72; game version is now 81.
