Version 0.3.1 is here!
This update focuses heavily on the game's progression and build systems. We've added the first version of the Perk System, introduced XP Orbs and Shields as pickups, implemented passive bonuses for all 24 base Beasts, and made several changes to progression and equipment.
XP Orbs have now been added to the game!
XP Orbs come in 5 different rarities, with each rarity providing a different amount of experience:
Common
Uncommon
Rare
Epic
Legendary
This gives players another way to actively collect XP during a run and adds another layer of progression to the gameplay loop.
A new pickup has also been added:
Shield
When the player picks up a Shield, they receive protection for the current wave in which the pickup was collected.
This creates another tactical resource that can help players survive difficult situations and push through dangerous waves.
The first major version of the Perk System has been implemented!
The main focus of this stage was getting the perk formulas into the game while also building their descriptions and UI structure.
There are currently 35 Perks, with several perks containing multiple levels.
The Perks are divided into 5 different branches:
Focused on improving offensive capabilities, critical hits, damage, and weapon performance.
Focused on survivability, shields, defensive mechanics, and recovery.
Focused on movement, positioning, pickups, and tactical advantages.
Focused on improving the effectiveness and damage of your Companions.
Powerful effects designed around taking risks in exchange for stronger rewards.
The perk system is still under development and will continue to receive balancing and refinement.
The passive abilities of all 24 non-evolved Beasts have now been added to the Equipment system.
These abilities are not fully balanced yet, so their values are subject to change during future testing.

These passives are an important first step toward making every Beast feel different and giving players more meaningful choices when building their ship.
We've also fixed several issues during development:
Fixed: When using the Aim Radar weapon with ships other than the BlazeFang family, the split bullets remained red instead of using the correct color.
Fixed: Weapons can no longer be removed from a slot. They can now only be replaced with another weapon.
Fixed: Unlocking a new ship tier no longer causes the preview ship to cover the level-up UI.
Beasts no longer affect when the player can unlock the next ship tier or ship.
This separates Beast progression from ship progression and gives us more control over how the two systems develop independently.
We've also reached an important milestone outside of BitBeasts itself:
