Gravethorn v1.0 – Launch Notes

After more than a year of development, Gravethorn is finally out with its v1.0 release.

As you’ve probably heard many times from solo developers, handling everything alone wasn’t easy. That said, I genuinely enjoyed every part of the process.

I tried to sharpen the game through constant iteration and long testing sessions.
I added gameplay ideas whenever something new came to mind.
I focused on telling an engaging story.
And above all, I tried to design the experience by putting myself in the player’s place.

Despite all of this, the result may still be far from “perfect.”
Maybe I missed the mark. Maybe I didn’t.

Either way, I made the game I wanted to make.
Ignored the rain. Stayed on my path. 🙂

If you’re interested, you’ll find notes about new changes and known issues below.

I hope you enjoy the journey. I know I did.

Thank you so much, and happy hunting.—Mirac

New Features / Changes

(If you never played the demo, you can safely ignore this section.)

  • Updated resolution list:

    • 1280×720 (16:9)

    • 1600×900 (16:9)

    • 1920×1080 (16:9)

    • 1920×1200 (16:10)

    • 2560×1080 (21:9)

    • 2560×1440 (16:9)

    • 2560×1600 (16:10)

    • 3440×1440 (21:9)

    • 3840×1080 (32:9 ultrawide)

    • 3840×2160 (16:9, 4K)

    • 5120×1440 (32:9 ultrawide)

  • Keyboard configuration now allows customizing movement keys.
Arrow keys are permanently assigned as secondary movement inputs and cannot be changed, to prevent potential softlocks.

  • Added a player position indicator to the map, showing your approximate location within the current room.
It’s not perfectly precise, but it should at least help you understand which side of the room you’re on.
Both the indicator and the current room blink to improve visibility.

  • You can now exit most in-game menus using ESC or Gamepad B.

  • All item descriptions, lore entries, and related texts have been reviewed and rewritten.

  • All localization files have been revised and rewritten from scratch.
Translations other than English and Turkish are still pending confirmation by native speakers or professionals, but they should now be significantly improved in terms of context and overall quality.

  • Tutorial texts have been simplified and shortened (at least… that was the intention).

  • New rooms have been added to the Chapel.

  • Laél’s appearance has been revised.

  • The Sister’s voice acting has been replaced.

  • Voice acting for the 1st Memory cutscene has been replaced.

  • You now need to be near a Shrine to equip or unequip Sigils.
Since Sigils significantly alter gameplay, I wanted this decision to carry more weight.

Known Issues

  • In very rare cases, loading a save may result in an infinite black screen.
I’m investigating the cause. Simply restarting the game should allow you to continue.

  • Occasionally, after certain Forbidden Art casts (or actions like drinking a potion), the character may become stuck.
Pressing the Dodge button resolves this. I’m working on a fix for an upcoming patch.

  • A small number of interaction trigger boxes may require you to step slightly away and re-enter the area to activate them.

  • Companions summoned via Shade of Retribution may sometimes behave oddly while following the player, such as falling downward in a fast loop or clipping into walls. This is purely visual and does not affect gameplay.

  • When using the Nightborn Forbidden Art, the character may very rarely ignore collision during teleportation back to the true body and fall into the void. Reloading the game or restarting is required. Annoying, I know, I’m working on a solution.

  • Another Nightborn-related issue: in rare cases, if the player takes a critical hit during the transition between the true body and the illusion body, death may occur when it shouldn’t. I believe this is fixed and have tested it extensively, but if you encounter it, and your Max HP becomes permanently much lower than intended (e.g. 25 or 50) please contact me.

Community27 Aug 2026Development UpdateGreetings! It has been a while since my last update here, so first of all: I'm still here, and I've been working on something new. Since around April–May, I’ve been developing my next game. I’m not ready to reveal its title or story yet, but I can share a little about the direction. Unlike my previous projects, this is not a Metroidvania or an action-focused game . It is a narrative-driven adve…Game update18 May 2026Version 1.021 Minor Update (Build 190526)If you haven’t activated the Shrine in the Endless Nightmare area, you can return there by interacting with the corpse in Ravenbell again. · Some text was not appearing in the final choice selection screen for certain languages. · Increased the parry window of the Ghost Knight in Titan's Reach. · Fixed an issue where Acolyte enemies in the Crimson Bastion would play their death voice line twice…In-game event25 Apr 2026Version 1.021 Update – New Game+ Balance / Nightborne FixGreetings! This is a small balance patch focused on New Game+ (Nightmare Mode). Enemy health and damage have been significantly reduced. Nightmare Mode ended up being far more punishing than intended. The goal was to recreate a sense of challenge for a second playthrough, but it went too far. This update pulls things back, especially for Nightmare I . As a result, New Game+ runs should now feel…
