Rarities & Crafting

Long story short

With this update, I wanted to breathe some fresh life into looting and crafting.
The goal was to increase the variety of weapons and equipment, but without just adding useless filler items.

Please note

With the new stat system, some older weapons might have lost some of their values.
Just give the sort button in your inventory a quick click, and everything will be back to normal.

Rarities

Most weapons and equipment now have a chance to become rare items upon creation.
This means that rare items can now appear as loot from any enemy, in chests, or even through crafting.
They are usually equipped with stronger stats that can also influence health, energy, and mana.
Depending on the rarity, additional attributes can also be unlocked.
I’ve gone with the classic rarity colors we are all used to:
Uncommon (Green), Rare (Blue), Epic (Purple), and Legendary (Orange).
Let's see if it fits well with the current probabilities.
I’m half-tempted to just put a legendary item in a glass display case instead of ever actually using it, ha.

Rune Crafting

Since jewelry crafting was in desperate need of an update, this provided the perfect opportunity to overhaul it.
There is now one specific recipe each for a rune ring and a rune necklace.
Both recipes are available from Baldrim the dwarf in the mountain cave.
Crafting these new pieces of jewelry typically requires any gemstone of your choice.
The stats of the resulting item depend on the gemstone used:
Ruby = Health, Diamond = Energy, Sapphire = Mana.
Outdated ring and necklace recipes have been disabled.

Crafting Skills

The crafting skill window is back, and you can watch the bars fill up while you're doing what you do best. The higher your level, the greater the chance that crafting an item will result in a rare one. Note that only weapons and equipment can become rare at this time.

Start Screen

The ancient start screen has finally received his first update.
The UI should now also fit on ultra-wide screens.

Place Holder Images

The last placeholder images in the loading screens have been replaced with its first onyx versions.

Improvements

  • The map now automatically becomes transparent when you are no longer hovering over it.

  • Updated and re-enabled the durability and energy consumption systems for all tools and weapons.

  • You can now display an image of the gamepad preset on-screen to make it easier for new players to get started.

  • In hints and other texts, the name of the assigned active key is now always displayed instead of its generic label.

  • The spawn chance for each gem deposit in the upper mountain region has been increased to 10%. Additionally, one deposit of each type can now be found in the mountain caves, with a general respawn time of one week.

  • Gems can now also be purchased from the dwarves.

  • Various UI improvements across multiple areas.

  • The tooltip layout has been cleaned up slightly.

  • Bags are no longer stackable.

Fixes

  • Decorative flowers on the marketplace are no longer incorrectly flagged as interactable on market days.

  • The Character Creation UI should now always correctly disappear when loading existing saves.

  • Fixed various grass rendering issues where water meets the land along the coastline.
    Thanks for the feedback!

  • Fixed an issue where the cursor style occasionally failed to update.

Major update5 Sep 2026ArchaeologyArchaeology While testing the game, the archaeology branch was honestly a bit sad to look at. Everything else kept growing, while archaeology literally stayed stuck in the Stone Age. That is why the following adjustments were made to better fit the current state of Onyx. These adjustments also create a nice little loop to finally bring the requested dinos into the game ha. · In larger regions e…In-game event17 Aug 2026GiantsGiants Yeah, that just had to be. The first giant versions of plantable crops have been added. Nobody still knows where Nick gets his weird rarities from, but from time to time (30 %), he may have a bag of these unusual seeds available in his shop. They can also occasionally be found as loot throughout the world. · Giant Carrot (drops a lot of Carrots) · Giant Parsnip (drops a lot of Parsnips)…Game update8 Aug 2026FixesSteamworks integration temporarily disabled due to hiccups.
