Giants
Yeah, that just had to be.
The first giant versions of plantable crops have been added. Nobody still knows where Nick gets his weird rarities from, but from time to time (30 %), he may have a bag of these unusual seeds available in his shop. They can also occasionally be found as loot throughout the world.
Giant Carrot (drops a lot of Carrots)
Giant Parsnip (drops a lot of Parsnips)
Giant Pumpkin (drops a lot of Pumpkins and Giant Pumpkin Pieces)
Giant Strawberries (drops a lot of Strawberries)
Note:
Giant plants now use a completely new system designed to address the limitations and missing features identified with the previous system. They can be placed freely using the BuildManager without being restricted by the grid, while still requiring Digged Dirt for planting. This gives us the flexibility to create plants in virtually any size and shape we want. The placement preview clearly shows the required space, while the watering status can be directly recognized on the plant itself. Seeds can also be dug back out with a shovel as long as they are still in the first growth stage, giving more flexibility when adjusting or correcting placements. If the new system performs reliably, the goal is to eventually migrate all other plants to this system as well.
Gamepad
The D-pad left and right buttons can now also be used in-game to adjust ui sliders with a gamepad.
In the main menu, the gamepad stick will remain in use until the input actions are overhauled.
Version Number
The version number has mostly just grown over time and hasn’t really communicated much about Onyx’s current development stage. Since some players could use the version number as an indication of how far along the game is, it makes sense to make it a little more meaningful going forward.
So, welcome to version 0.7.1.0!
From now on, the first two numbers will give a rough indication of the current development stage. Just to be clear: 0.7 does not mean that Onyx is 70% finished. It’s simply a rough indication of where the game currently stands in development. There’s still more content and a few features planned before Onyx reaches 1.0, so there’s still room for further updates along the way.
Steam Page
All of the long-outdated screenshots on the Steam page have been updated.
Improvements
The following crops have been updated to meet the new quality standards.
Carrots, Parsnips, Pumpkins, Strawberries, Watermelons.
Strawberries now regrow for up to 2 additional harvests.
When planting pumpkins or watermelons, only one will now grow per crop tile.
The Pepperoni crop has been renamed to Chili Pepper.
The Pepper crop has been renamed to Bell Pepper.
Dropped loot now spawns in a more satisfying number of individual items.
A ton of various other adjustments.
