You Can Now Play as the Orcs

In two campaign missions, you can now choose your race before starting the game.

If a full Orc faction is available in the mission, you will be given a choice before launch:

  • Humans

  • Orcs

When choosing the Orcs, the player takes control of the entire original Orc faction: its islands, resources, population, buildings, and army. The Humans are then controlled by the AI.

In other words, you can now switch sides with your opponent in these missions and try to complete the same map from a completely different starting position.

Winning as the Orcs counts as completing the mission normally and unlocks the next mission just like winning as the Humans.

For now, this is the first experimental version of race selection. In the future, this system may become the foundation for a more complete faction and race selection system.

Thank You, Playtesters

A special thank you to everyone who continues to play the playtest and send feedback.

At this point, all feedback received so far has been reviewed and prioritized.

Thank you for helping make Empires Edge better. Work on the AI, missions, races, and future eras continues.

Over the last several versions, I’ve been gradually rebuilding how the AI understands resources, makes economic decisions, and prepares for its next actions. In 0.2.23, that work has now been brought together into one consistent system. The AI now understands what it actually needs The AI is now much better at connecting…In-game event20 Aug 2026The Empires Edge Playtest has been updated to version 0.2.20This update includes another major improvement to the AI’s economic decision-making. AI opponents now react to the resources they actually need for their current plans, instead of treating every low or empty resource as an emergency. They also better understand resources already being saved for committed actions, which helps avoid unnecessary spending and duplicated resource demand. In practice…Major update9 Aug 20260.2.7Since version 0.1.35, most of the work has been focused on the computer-controlled opponents. The AI system has been almost completely rebuilt, with the goal of better connecting economic development, island expansion, army growth, and progression through the ages. In addition, a new interface for attacking enemy islands has been added, Bronze Age content for the Orcs has been introduced, and n…
