Major Update: v1.1

Worlds Upon The Wind Demo · published 36 days ago · build 24563181

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

This is a larger update, introducing 12 new survey encounters, with their own glyphs and relics, as well as skills to preview and reroll shard maps. There are several balance adjustments to maintain endgame challenge, many bug fixes, and numerous quality of life improvements based on player feedback.

As usual, all applicable changes are also in the demo.

New Survey Encounters

12 new survey encounters have been added to the game, mostly clustered around swamps, seashores, and mountains. These feature new art pieces, and can grant 10 new glyphs (Ice, Snow, Carry, Chirp, Play, Plug, Thanks, Respect, Entangle, Pierce), as well as 5 new relics:

  • Glass Pebble: Whenever a Radiance slot is filled, add a random Radiance glyph to your hand.
  • Scallop Shell: Seashore settlements no longer have shortages.
  • Spider's Web: Whenever a glyph with Connection essence is slotted, discard a negative glyph.
  • Old Painting: After you have lost 50 Beauty with this relic active, add an Old glyph (Expand 1, Conjure Weak) to your hand on stage start.
  • Firefly Lantern: Add a Glow glyph (Pacify 2, Lose 5 Productivity) to your hand at the start of each stage.

Shard Map Preview & Reroll

Two new skills have been added to the Exploration skill tree.

The first skill, available from the second era, allows you to preview the shard map from the expedition setup menu before embarking. You can also experiment with pinning different shard cultures and seeing how the map adjusts to their requirements.

The second skill, available from the third era, allows you to reroll the map an unlimited number of times, so you can find just the right shard to fit your goals, be they strategic or aesthetic.

Balance Changes

Several glyphs have been adjusted, increasing their early-game utility and reducing their power cap:

  • Morning
    • Inspire 2
    • Draw 1 -> Expand 2

  • Nothing

    • Draw 1
    • Spread Spirit -> Draw 1 Spirit

  • Picture

    • Gain 6 Beauty -> Bless Beauty
    • Draw 1

  • Echo

    • Removed Store.
    • Added Change and Connection essence.

  • Starve

    • Adapt 2
    • Lose 20 Food -> Lose 10 Food

In addition to the glyph changes, the Butterbur Extract relic is now limited to no more than 7 triggers per stage, and the Crane companion's ability now grants 1 point of all yields per 2 points of Devotion, does not grant yields during survey stages, and is limited to 4 rather than 5 activations per stage.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Added a stats UI, accessible from the pause menu, that lists current expedition stats such as hand size, glyph rarity bonuses, and the totals for various relic effects. Most uncommon stats are hidden by default unless something is affecting them.
  • Added search boxes to the expedition setup UIs.
  • Added a display of total glyph count in View Deck buttons and glyph listing UIs.
  • Added a listing of sites and their activated developments to settlement tooltips.
  • Added an option to display foray yields separately from expedition yields.
  • Added an option to hide the version label.
  • Added an option to not sort predicted yields.
  • Added tooltips for all options in the settings menu.
  • Added the full list of music tracks to the credits.
  • Added support for dropping glyphs onto settlement shortage labels.
  • Disabled automatic slot assignment when a glyph is dropped on the survey UI without targeting a specific choice. As far as I can tell, this is usually unintentional.
  • Improved glyph search to also search the names of conjured glyphs.
  • Adjusted the yield tooltips to avoid covering the sites UI. The same info is still available if the tooltip is expanded by holding Ctrl.
  • Adjusted the capital's yield list to be consistently sorted.
  • Improved the capital's tooltip to mention the connection mechanic.
  • Clarified several shard culture requirements.
  • Clarified the outcome of the White City event.
  • Slightly clarified the outcomes of choices in the First Tea event.
  • The game is now saved when exiting the expedition setup menu.
  • Allowed option-click to mimic middle click on Mac.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Recycle not properly randomizing its picked glyph.
  • Fixed some difficulty modifiers from settler quests no longer applying after the game is reloaded.
  • Fixed an inconsistent interaction between the Store invocation with Echo, Mirror Ink, and Starter Bead.
  • Fixed Glyph Research not being usable when only negative glyphs are left undiscovered.
  • Fixed some quest ending notifications stretching outside screen bounds.
  • Fixed some event outcome descriptions displaying incorrectly when text scaling is enabled.
  • Fixed visual artifacts in the Skills menu on some old GPUs.
  • Fixed the Tiger companion ability description displaying the wrong essence type for its second slot.
  • Fixed the Turtle companion ability description displaying the wrong number for gained Resilience.
  • Fixed mouse wheel zooming applying to the Haven while the cursor is over other UI elements.
  • Fixed the Replan button being available during surveys before the first hand is drawn.
  • Fixed the floating foray plan window sometimes overlapping the UI at the top of the screen.
  • Fixed the glyph deck counters not updating immediately when a glyph is removed from the deck during a stage.
  • Fixed some UIs not responding to interactions in areas overlapping with the quest list when it is opened.
  • Fixed several glyphs having incorrect stroke lists.
  • Fixed the Managed Estate shard culture goal displaying as failed if checked while the relevant event is in progress.
  • Fixed the explorer report from the Paper Distributors shard culture containing "$town1" instead of the settlement name.
  • Fixed redundant text in a choice requirement description in the When the River Rose event.
  • Fixed a missing dependency line in the skills menu.
  • Fixed the game soft-locking if the player exits the art viewer before dismissing its tutorial.
  • Fixed the art piece Fuji and Coastal Island not being viewable.
  • Fixed the top few pixels of glyph names being cut off during casting.
