Minor Update: v1.0.5

Worlds Upon The Wind Demo · published 43 days ago · build 24442452

This update adjusts the balance of several relics and one animal companion to avoid cases of extreme scaling, especially in later phases of the game. It also fixes numerous bugs, notably ones to do with endgame skills and settler quests, and includes minor quality of life improvements.

As usual, all applicable changes are also in the demo.

Balance Changes

  • Reduced the power of the Tanuki companion:
    • Reduced the amount of granted yields from 10 + 10 per phase to 10 + 5 per phase.
    • Increased the activation cost by one universal slot per use.
    • Capped usage limit to 4 times per stage.

I will continue monitoring player feedback, so please let me know if these changes seem too harsh for your playstyle.

  • Adjusted the Chopsticks relic to require non-universal slots.
  • Limited the Monastery Chain relic to trigger no more than once per stage.
  • Adjusted the Mended Teacup relic to grant no more than 7 maximum inspiration per stage. I believe this may still be overpowered.
  • Adjusted the Rosary Ring relic to only apply to slots filled in developments. This may not be sufficient to control its scaling, but I'd like to try this for now and await your feedback.
  • Adjusted the Old glyph to replace Despair 3 with Conjure Weak. This is mainly for thematic reasons.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Clicking on a Haven NPC while their dialogue text is animating will now skip the animation instead of closing the speech bubble.
  • Negative glyphs are now sorted to the top of the list in glyph removal dialogs, since most people would prioritize removing those.
  • Adjusted settler quest names to follow a more consistent pattern.
  • Made the camera movement during Haven cutscenes smoother.
  • Separated the Draw Stack and Discards tooltips.
  • Added a note about the expedition being finished on the convergence end screen if the player has run out of inspiration during convergence.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed settler quests awarding a relic choice showing the relic choice UI behind the quest finishing announcement.
  • Fixed settler quests which require multiple copies of a development not stating so in their goal description.
  • Fixed the relic selected using the Selected Starting Relic skill being granted at every phase start instead of only at expedition start.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause a main quest to be stuck in an unfinishable state if you finish the expedition from the pause menu while a main quest event is in progress.
  • Fixed the survey scrollbar not resetting on encounter start. This only matters if you are using non-default font scaling.
  • Fixed sites with many developments being cut-off in some cases when using the hover-on-zoom accessibility option.
  • Fixed fulfilled convergence tasks still showing the shortage text after the game is reloaded. This was a visual bug only. Gameplay is unaffected.
  • Fixed the tooltip for Draw <essence type> being cut off.
  • Fixed minor typos and grammar mistakes.

Steam Deck Support

Although the game is still not properly tested on the Steam Deck, several users report it being reasonably playable. Valve is currently verifying Deck support, and I will be improving it in future patches, but for the time being there are several known issues:

  • If you are using multiple profiles on the same device, savegames made on one profile may appear when the game is loaded on another profile, but trying to load them will put the game into a broken state. I have yet to verify whether this can be temporarily solved by using separate save slots for each profile until I implement a proper solution, but if anyone tries it, please let me know.
  • I'm told that Ctrl is not assigned by the default Deck control scheme. It is not critical to play the game, but will prevent you from being able to expand tooltips. You should be able to remap it manually from the Steam UI for now.
  • If you would like to reduce battery usage or improve game performance, you should be able to run it in the graphics compatibility mode (one of the game's launch options).
