Entropy and Megaprojects

Once Upon The Universe · published 30 Jul 2026, 15:13 UTC · build 24474381

In the end, everything drifts toward entropy. The universe slowly loses energy and matter throughout its existence. The only thing that counters entropy is Life.

This update finally introduces the Entropy Counter, allowing you to see how much your universe has aged and how the life within it counters that decay. Life itself acts as a force slowing entropy down, but why should an advanced civilization rely solely on the Creator?

Megaprojects are massive stellar initiatives that civilizations can take on to tackle their fate.

The current Megaprojects available to civilizations are:

  • Dyson Sphere: gathers vast amounts of energy directly from a star

  • Planetary Exodus Drive: rescues rogue planets by using colossal amounts of energy to move an entire planet

  • Artificial Star: a perfect structure, better than anything the universe has come up with so far, and a home for a civilization with an infinite lifetime

As usual, patches and balance updates will follow, so if you stumble upon any issues, please let me know. Feedback, as always, is more than welcome! :)Changelog:

  • Added the first stage of the universe Entropy system, tracking matter loss, stellar collapse, supernovas, and the rise or fall of civilizations from the Emergence of Civilizations onward.

  • Added a collapsible Entropy display and a detailed tooltip showing how particle mass and stellar energy contribute to universal decay.

  • Added Planetary Anchoring technology and the Planetary Exodus Drive project, allowing advanced civilizations to autonomously return their rogue worlds to the nearest active star system.

  • Added a dedicated Megaproject panel for planetary projects.

  • Allowed rogue worlds to preserve, operate, construct, and upgrade their planetary buildings.

  • Added Forced Heliogenesis, unlocking the Artificial Star megaproject. Advanced civilizations can now reconstruct proto-stars into permanent civilization-wide Energy sources, but failing to supply their immense Energy Materials upkeep will trigger a stellar collapse.

  • Added Distributed Stellar Collectors and integrated Dyson Spheres into the civilization megaproject system, including construction queues and Creator inspiration.

With this update, planet land surfaces will no longer have a fixed water-to-land ratio. Instead, it is now actively affected by the level of ice caps on the planet, which will grow and melt depending on the planet’s temperature. If the planet's temperature rises too far beyond livable conditions, the Moist Greenhouse effect can occur, gradually evaporating water…
