1.1 MODES — Last Call, Riptide, King of the Buoy

The tide heard you. It brought friends.

Somebody played Snugfang with friends, ran out of game in fifteen minutes, and left a review asking for more modes so it wouldn't get repetitive. Fair ask. One buoy, two seats — and now three new reasons to shove someone off it.

LAST CALL — best of five

Every round crowns a winner, and the match crowns a champion. The results screen lays out the whole round-by-round table, so nobody gets to misremember who carried. Restart deals a brand new match, not another round.

RIPTIDE — the rules move

The modifier card no longer sits still for the whole round. Roughly every 20 seconds a new one is drawn inside the round, announced with its own sting and callout. Whatever plan you agreed on out loud is now evidence against you.

KING OF THE BUOY — seat-time is the score

Seconds in the seat are the points. Hogging the buoy isn't rude here, it's correct play — which is exactly why the crew will tear you off it. You can go under at the buzzer and still be crowned for it.

Where to find them

There is now a MODE / TIER strip in the lobby: pick the mode and the difficulty tier (CASUAL / NORMAL / BRUTAL) before the round, on keyboard or pad. Until today these modes existed only down in the code, with no way in.

All three are couch modes. Online still runs SURVIVAL — untouched, byte-identical, still the default — and nothing changed on the wire, so a friend who hasn't updated can still drown alongside you.

Also in 1.1

  • Empty lobby seats now say plainly that a bot will take them, in 12 languages — two players and two bots is a real game.
  • Legibility pass on the menus: the selected row was warm text on a warm plate at 2.69:1 across about ten screens. It passes now.
  • The lobby strip's own text went from 20pt at 2.83:1 to 44pt at 6.53:1, and the menus hold up at the largest TEXT SIZE setting.
  • Every record you already hold survives — the save keys are backward compatible.

Fixed before you ever saw it

An audit of this update caught it red-handed and all of it died before ship: a champion screen that printed over its own buttons and could name the wrong player, King of the Buoy never announcing its winner in text, Riptide writing a personal best it hadn't earned, a mid-round card swap leaving stale physics on a seated player or resizing the buoy unannounced, a tide rise that skipped its warning, an unreachable second lobby row on d-pad, and an eased CASUAL run overwriting a real Normal record.

Snugfang is free to play, so words are the only thing I can ask for. Get a crew on it, then tell me which of the three stuck — and what the fourth one should be.

Snugfang has always been an endless flood. 1.5 adds the other thing: a run with a last stage, a logbook that counts what you've actually done, and thirteen trials with a clock on them. This is FATHOMS. FATHOMS — pick your route, clear every stage A new couch mode that can be finished. Three depths, each a fixed ladder of stages: SHALLOWS (6 stages), TRENCH (7) and ABYSS (8). A tide for the day — the same one for everyone Round 1 is now pinned to a named tid…SnugfangGame update14 Aug 20261.3 UNDERTOW — the sea was always doing this, now you can see itThe sea was always doing this. Now you can see it. No new cards this time. 1.3 is a clarity patch: the round-over screen finally answers its own question, every card tells you what it does, and two things the game has been doing to you since launch are visible for the first time. "WHO LIVES" now answers itself The results screen asked the question and then said nothing. It turns out the answer…
