Phantoms Deep Playtest Update: Melee Improvements

This build focuses primarily on improvements to the melee combat system.

Melee System

Several changes have been made to melee combat and enemy reactions:

* Improved melee hit handling.
* Improved blocking behavior.
* Improved reactions when characters are struck.
* Added additional support for enemies and other objects taking melee damage.
* General cleanup and refinement of the melee combat system.

More work is planned, but this build should provide a much better environment for testing close-quarters combat.

Playtest Warning

Equip a weapon immediately after entering the game.

A wrench or pipe will work. If you already have a firearm, that is also an option.

A Spiritual Golem will appear shortly after the build starts and will rather insistently encourage you to test the upgraded melee system.

Once the Golem has been dispatched, the ship and crew are safe and you can continue testing normally.

The submarine begins this build underwater and very close to a sonic anomaly.

Your boat is no longer just taking numbers on a gauge. Damage now affects performance and survival. As the sub takes damage, its top speed is reduced. Heavy damage can also cause the boat to sink, forcing you to deal with the problem before the deep claims more than paint and rivets. To recover from flooding damage, players can n…Game update24 Jun 2026Control Panels OperationalIn Phantoms Deep , the control sensitivity panel can be opened at any time during play by pressing Escape or the three-bars/menu button on Steam Deck . The available sensitivity range is intentionally very wide to support many mouse resolutions and player setups, so most players should expect to spend a few moments tuning their personal feel before diving too deep.
