This update adds a new graphics compatibility mode for older hardware that supports a lot more systems, fixes numerous bugs reported by players, and adds the option to delete save slots, inexplicably the most requested feature.

As usual, all applicable changes are also in the demo.

Older Hardware Support

I have received about a dozen reports of people having issues running the game on older hardware. To address this, I have implemented a new compatibility mode that should be able to run on much older hardware, and also support all the operating systems which the standard mode supports.

Although internally the map rendering system works quite differently now, the game should look almost the same in this mode, with the major exception of missing animated clouds on the map, and some animations being simplified.

There are also several additional options that may help systems that are new enough to use the normal graphics mode but suffer from performance issues:

  • Added the option to use exclusive fullscreen mode.
  • Added the option to cap framerate at 30 frames per second instead of the default 60.
  • Added the option to turn off clouds on the map.
  • Added the option to make map changes instant rather than animated.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Added the ability to delete save slots.
  • Swapped the Continue and New Game buttons due to multiple player requests for it.
  • Clarified the description of the Dead Branch relic.
  • Made the stroke start hint in the kanji drawing minigame a little easier to notice.

Gameplay Changes

  • Limited the Crane and Sea Bream companions to 5 activations per turn.
  • Limited the Frog and Monkey companions to 6 activations per turn.
  • Adjusted the Land of Bottled Lightning and Wasteland Excavators shard cultures to guarantee more wasteland biomes when pinned. Note that this will change the biomes in existing expeditions that have this shard pinned, but you will be able to continue normally.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a case of survey options not being interactable if a relic adds a glyph to the hand before the first draw.
  • Fixed the game soft-locking in some cases if an automatically cast negative glyph causes another glyph to be discarded (e.g. through Leaky Inkstick).
  • Fixed multiple settler quests finishing before all their goals are achieved.
  • Fixed achievements that require specific event choices not triggering correctly. These will be awarded retroactively.
  • Fixed expanded tooltips not prioritizing which terms to define when not all terms can fit.
  • Fixed the relics list UI not automatically moving relics out of the extras (+N) list when their counter changes.
  • Fixed a Haven NPC spawning leaning on the museum wall... before the museum is there.
  • Fixed a typo in one of the Haven NPC lines.

Thank you for the reviews!

The game has reached over 50 reviews, which was required for Steam to label it as "Very Positive". I have read each review, and have been inspired by all the kind words you have been saying. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your impressions!
