SOLITAIRE.EXE build 112
157 items that say what they do, a controller that reaches everything,
and hardcore records you can hear the night escalate over.
EVERY ITEM SAYS WHAT IT DOES. All 157 things you can buy or use were
rewritten against what the code actually does. CAR_POOL.SYS names its
cards and its payout. The three plugins that grant a free cell state the
cap instead of describing each other. "Stacks with" now runs both ways.
THE BLOTTER introduces itself the first time you see it.
GHOST.INI EARNS ITS SLOT. The draw that would break your chain goes
unnoticed, and scoring re-arms it - so draw, score, draw is free all
night. Two draws in a row still cool you, and the machine still never
grants its rare free recycle.
THE MUSIC
- The hardcore records were re-authored. The kick stops, drops to half time and comes back, so the layers you unlock can be heard over it.
- The genre ticks are a tick again all the way up the ladder. Melodic techno's had been shipping as a hard-clipped square wave, and five genres had no cue at all since the roster changed.
- Sung passages are gone from the tracks that were carrying too many of them; the one-word stabs stay.
- The engine now mixes at 48 kHz, matching the soundtrack. Every track had been resampled in real time for the whole session.
PLAYER.EXE
- The window fits the screen again.
- One track number per row, with the genre beside it.
- The equaliser is on by default, set to SOLITAIRE.EXE, and says plainly that it shapes the game's music too.
ALSO FIXED
- On a controller: every button on the felt is reachable, no button eats the press meant for the next one, and a page that scrolls now scrolls when you push down on it.
- IT LEFT A DISK left no disk. THE TERMINAL offered a disk it never handed over.
- Claiming a legendary with every plugin slot full now lets you sell one to make room, instead of dropping the claim.
- SERVICE_PACK.EXE sells one level of an upgrade, and now turns up often enough to be worth waiting for.
- The timecard is no longer a window inside a window.
