Halcyon Energy Has Opened Its Doors: Open Playtest

Halcyon Energy has removed all recruitment restrictions. There is no application, no screening, no waiting list. Request access on the Steam page and your clearance is granted.

Shift window (Pacific Standard Time):
Opens — Friday 24 July, 12:00am
Closes — Sunday 26 July, 11:59pm

Every system flagged for repair before this playtest has been addressed. Balancing, UI, and the tutorial are all in place. The plant is as ready as it's going to be for this employment trial.

This is the full game. Every fault, every cascade, fires and surge events included. It is best experienced with a crew of up to four, so bring colleagues. A shift attempted alone is possible. A shift attempted together is considerably better.

On feedback:

There is a Discord link on the main menu and on the Steam page. That's where I want your feedback, and I genuinely need it. This is a work in progress, and the point of a playtest is for me to learn what works, what doesn't, and what you actually want this game to be.

  • The most useful things you can tell me:

  • Did it feel fair? Overwhelming is intended. Impossible is not.

  • Did the tutorial actually explain what it needed to?

  • What broke, and how badly?

  • Most importantly - was the game fun? How could it be more fun?

You might hit bugs. That is what this weekend is for. Report them and they get fixed.

One ask: I'm a solo developer building this around a full-time job and the rest of a normal life. Feedback is welcome, blunt feedback especially, but please keep it constructive and respectful. "This system confused me and here's why" makes the game better. I'll read all of it.

Thank you for your service.

— Halcyon Energy
