Hey y'all!
Just in case you're new here or need a refresher, here's what's been going on in Gloomsday lately. We relaunched last month after a long hiatus with a clear game identity and a strong plan for reaching the finish line. Gloomsday is now a dark roguelite action-platformer. The relaunch build is the baseline: one map and boss, 14 spells, each with an active cast half and a passive enchantment half. There are multiple upgrade options, both in-run and between runs. Runs take about 20 minutes, and depending on your familiarity with roguelites, there's about 2–3 hours of gameplay in there today.
Here's what's new with v0.2.0. Full patch notes here.
This is main new feature. We got some really good feedback at a convention last month, the primary wish being controller support. Gloomsday plays properly on any gamepad now (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and other generic pads). Rumble and rebinding should be working as well. We've come up with two controller layout schemes: Bumper Casting and Button Casting. Finally, we are fully integrated with Steam Input on all gamepad types mentioned above if that's your preference.
There's a brief tutorial sequence the first time you load into the main dungeon, which teaches you the movement basics and how the mana system works. Hat and Gary also have occasional brief dialogues giving you tips. We reworked spell enchantments to have a more unique identity separate from their spell half. Every spell's passive half is a distinct named effect, for example Caustic Coating, Mana Leech, Coyote Spirit, and so on.
Go say hi in the tutorial or grand hall. :)
For those new, Gloomsday is $8 during Early Access. The demo is forever free, and the full release will come with an increase in price. Early Access may also increase in price as content increases. Buying early means buying a smaller game for a smaller price with free upgrades. We're still aiming at four regions with at least two bosses each plus a final boss, the story's conclusion, and a much larger pool of spells, glyphs, and pacts. You can expect updates from us every 2–4 weeks, with the patch notes posted right here. If you want to become part of active development, join the Gloomsday Discord.
Gloomsday is 20% off 8/20 through 8/27. And if you enjoy it been playing, leaving a review helps us way more than you'd think. (Gotta beat that algorithm...)
Happy Gloomsday.
