Game update

Ruin Patch Notes – Performance, Housing, Movement & Quality of Life

Ruin · published

Changelog for yesterdays patch and todays patch:

Performance

Improved both server and client performance based on yesterday’s live server testing.

Reduced unnecessary work related to:
Furniture data
Player and mob updates
Corpses
Stationary mobs

Housing & Furniture

House owners and authorized managers can now pick up empty furniture anywhere inside the protected 3x3 house claim.
The old 10 minute pickup limit no longer applies inside managed housing.

Furniture cannot be picked up if:
Storage inside it is not empty.
Another object is sitting on top of it.
Your inventory does not have enough room.

House managers can now use:
Chests
Crafting stations
Furniture
House managers can also view the owner and management list.

Only the house owner can:
Change the management list.
Transfer house ownership.
Ownership transfer now requires confirmation.
Furniture and canvases placed on floors or either side of house walls can now be targeted properly instead of selecting the entire house.
Furniture inside a managed house now shows Pickup without a timer.

Building & Construction

Empty construction ghosts now disappear after 5 minutes.
Construction ghosts that already have materials invested into them will no longer disappear.
Funded construction slowly loses progress over time, similar to building health decay.
Server downtime no longer causes buildings or furniture to decay.
Tiles blocked by world objects cannot have their height changed.
Terrain underneath buildings can no longer be changed.

Painting

Painted canvases now update correctly for nearby players after they are saved.

Crafting

Crafting now remembers your selected profession until you close the game.
Inventory remains fully usable while the Crafting window is open.
Items can now be dropped into the world while Crafting or other windows are open.

Crafting tooltips now clearly explain:
Profession limits.
When all shared profession points have been used.
The server now gives a clear message when profession progression is blocked instead of failing silently.
Changing an equipment item’s level now instantly updates recipe difficulty.

Recipe colors update correctly:
Red – too difficult.
Yellow – difficult.
Green – normal.
Grey – too easy.
Recipe skill gain already uses each item’s required skill level when calculating progression.

Thank you to everyone who played yesterday and gave me the chance to diagnose the server while it was under real load.

It helped me better understand where both the server and client were slowing down. What I learned has already been used to improve performance with client and server, and it will continue to help with the next performance patch later today.

There is still more performance work to do, but the recent diagnostics gave me important areas which need to be focused on with client and server.
