A long run of night shifts.
Graveyard Shift started as a browser prototype and became a native Steam game. Before the demo opens the morgue doors, here is the road that got us here — pulled from fifty-nine versions of patch notes.
THE PORT
- THE STEAM PORT — the whole game rebuilt native in Godot: combat, the intake rite, the morgue tree, every screen. Nothing was carried over as-is.
- THE ART UNIFICATION PASS — all 58 painterly card icons redrawn as high-detail pixel art on a single palette, so the deck finally looked like one object instead of a scrapbook.
- EVERY EFFECT IS PIXEL ART — the entire effects layer renders on a chunky grid now. Every animation in this game is hand-built; none of it is stock.
- ULTRA-WIDE AND A LIVING TITLE SCREEN — a full graveyard nocturne with a cratered moon, drifting cloud, bat flights and Veil aurora.
THE SYSTEMS
- STAR RANKS AND ASCENSION — every card carries a rank with an escalating gilded frame. Max a Legendary and its stars turn silver with a crackling charge, and it earns an exclusive final form.
- FREEZE AND FIRE — Chilling Touch freezes a creature solid and steals its turn. Ignite sets Veil-fire that eats it a turn at a time.
- DUPLICATES BANK TOWARD RANKS — spare copies stopped being dead draws and became progress.
- THE GENEROUS SOUL and THE GAMBLER'S SOUL — booster souls that lay out ten cards and let you keep four, one of them a mischievous twin dealing from a richer shelf.
- SEAMLESS CONTROLLER SUPPORT — pick up a pad mid-fight and the game just follows. Every prompt flips, an iron legend names each mapping, and full Steam Input means any pad works.
- 30 STEAM ACHIEVEMENTS — each with a hand-made icon.
- 67 COMBOS — a ledger of hidden feats that pays you for playing well, not just for playing.
THE CONTENT
- THE ROSTER GREW TEETH — the Stray Pack replaced night one's lone beetle with four coats of graveyard hound. The Forgotten Guard, the Shambling and Wailing Corpses, the Bone Mage and a menagerie of elites followed.
- NEW CARDS, THEN TWELVE MORE — Reckoning, Mercy the Gravekeeper and their kin answered specific walls the run kept throwing up. Most recently, twelve cards gave every family its own engine to build toward.
- ROT BECAME A BUILD — Poison, Bleed and Burn stopped being chip damage. Virulence swells everything already festering, and Ancient creatures shrug off blades but not rot.
- THE INTAKE BOARD — hundreds of clipboard notes, so the bodies that come through the morgue each have their own small story.
AND ROUGHLY SIX HUNDRED FIXES
Most of them you would never notice, which is rather the point: damage numbers that land on the right frame, corpses that keep their size as they fall, fog that actually flows, a held card that says what it did.
The demo is close. Thanks for waiting.
