☕Tomo’s Teatime(◡‿◡) #19

GrandChase · published

Hello, everyone. This is Tomo.

Yesterday, we briefly shared an update on the follow-up measures after the September 2 update. As promised, today we’d like to go into a little more detail about the direction in which we plan to improve Ereb and Total Combat Power.

◼︎ Improvement Goals for Today (September 4)
As Ereb is a character we put a great deal of effort into creating, we’re working to address areas that fell short so that Ereb can be better received by players. Today, September 4, we’re focusing on improvements to ‘Apocalypse Blade’.

First, we’re removing the hitbox that slightly pulled certain monsters toward the character when using 'Apocalypse Blade,' which was causing the character to forcibly face some monsters. We expect this to make it easier to land back attacks on normal monsters.

Second, the slashing animation of 'Apocalypse Blade' will be faster. This will allow 'Apocalypse Blade' to be activated more reliably. There was also an issue where, when 'Apocalypse Blade' was activated near the end of the time limit, its attack power increase buff would sometimes not apply. By shortening the 'Apocalypse Blade' animation, this issue is expected to occur less frequently, making it less likely for 'Apocalypse Blade' to miss the effect of the attack power increase buff.

Third, the cancel timing after the slash will also be faster. This will allow you to transition into your next attack or evasive action more quickly.

Fourth, the character will no longer move forward when using 'Apocalypse Blade.' This is intended to prevent situations where moving through a monster caused the character to lose their back attack position.

Fifth, the transformation cancel input will be changed to C + ↑ (C + Up). This adjustment is intended to prevent the transformation from being accidentally canceled.

◼︎ Improvement Goals for Next Week
Next week, we plan to make two additional improvements.

First, we’ll add a Skill Tree option that allows 'Apocalypse Blade' to be activated manually. By building up Combo Stacks in advance, you’ll be able to choose when to activate 'Apocalypse Blade' consecutively. This is expected to allow you to concentrate your damage when monsters are in a weakened state or when you need to trigger a Break. It should also help prevent situations where 'Apocalypse Blade' is forcibly activated and ends up missing its target.

Additionally, when using the 4th Bar Awakening Special Skill 'Cataclysm,' the 4th Bar Special Skill Damage Increase option, which currently only applies to the transformation and 'Apocalypse Blade,' will be improved so that it applies to all attacks.

◼︎ Total Battle Power Formula and Improvement Direction
We understand that many of you may have felt frustrated with this update. While we would like to make these changes today, this is an important area, and we want to make sure everything is applied properly without issues. We sincerely apologize in advance that these changes will be updated next Wednesday, September 9.
To help ease your concerns, we’d like to explain the direction we’re taking with the Total Battle Power formula.

▸ Reestablishing Stat Weighting

The current stat weighting partially takes into account “how difficult it is to obtain each stat”. However, in the process, some weights ended up being higher or lower than intended.

Therefore, based on actual feedback regarding item stats, we plan to reorganize the priority of stats reflected in Battle Power. In order of their impact on Battle Power, the new priority will be Critical Chance → Critical Damage → Attack → Special Attack → Back Attack Damage → Increased MP/AP Recovery Rate.

With this adjustment, the weighting of Critical Chance, Critical Damage, and Increased MP/AP Recovery Rate will increase, while the weighting of Hell Spear Damage will decrease. Currently, the weighting of these stats varies between equipment pieces, which can sometimes result in inconsistent feedback depending on the equipment. Going forward, we plan to establish consistent rules so that newly released equipment will always provide consistent feedback.

▸ Changing the Digit Adjustment Method

Since we did not want this improvement to cause overall Battle Power values to become too high, we applied an adjustment calculation to keep Battle Power at a level similar to before. However, in certain ranges, increasing a stat could actually result in a lower Battle Power gain efficiency.

We believe this made it more difficult to understand which stats to prioritize for growth and could be perceived negatively, so we plan to remove this issue. Going forward, Battle Power will be adjusted so that it naturally increases as you increase your stats across each range.

▸ Separating Critical Chance Ranges

Critical Chance will be divided into three ranges (0-100% / 100-120% / above 120%), with progressively lower weighting applied to higher ranges. This is intended to ensure that the Critical Chance invested in preparation for the Corruption debuff in higher-level dungeons is appropriately recognized, while preventing Critical Chance above 120% from excessively inflating Battle Power.

▸ Separating MP/AP Recovery Rate Weighting for AP Characters

For AP characters, the weighting of Increased MP/AP Recovery Speed will be higher than that for MP characters. This is intended to ensure that the actual value and effectiveness of this stat for AP characters are properly reflected in Battle Power. Previously, we decided not to reflect this difference because we felt it would be unusual for AP characters to have higher stats than MP characters when using the same equipment. However, we have now decided to recognize the differences between characters and remove this disadvantage from Battle Power.

We also want to clarify in advance that these weightings may be adjusted again if we develop a better solution in the future.

◼︎ Improvements Under Consideration

We will carefully review the following changes before deciding whether to proceed. If they would significantly diminish the value of the effort players have already put into obtaining their existing stats, we will not proceed with them.

First, we are considering removing the penalty in Taint Resistance dungeons that reduces Critical Chance regardless of Taint Resistance. This is something we have already been gradually reducing when balancing the early Otherworld dungeons due to this issue. We will review whether it can be removed entirely in the future.

If this change is implemented, reaching over 100% Critical Chance will no longer be as essential as it is now, so additional adjustments to the Battle Power weighting and UI guidance will be necessary.

We are also considering changes to ensure that Critical Chance above 100% remains a meaningful stat inside dungeons. This change must be implemented before removing the Critical Chance penalty from the Taint Resistance penalty in order to minimize the sense of loss for players who have already invested heavily in Critical Chance.

Because this will require us to revise and test not only the Battle Power formula but also all combat formulas that use stats, we are coordinating the timing of its implementation with the update that removes the Taint Resistance penalty. We will do our best to minimize the burden of having players replace the Critical Chance stats they have already obtained with other stats.

◼︎ Property Change Support Event

Lastly, the additional Property Change Support Event mentioned in our previous notice will also be moving forward.

As we felt that a one-time reward would not be enough to readjust your properties, we previously mentioned that we would continue providing support through various events.

Following the Accumulated Login Event, we have also enhanced the Property Change Support Attendance Event. This event is scheduled to begin next Wednesday, September 9.

We will make sure to follow through on everything we’ve promised, one step at a time, even if it takes a little longer than expected.

We cherish every piece of content we create, and we’ll continue refining it. Our most important goal as developers is to make GrandChase a more enjoyable game. We’ll continue working to make it a game you can comfortably return to whenever you feel like playing, and one that we can all enjoy together for a long time.

There is one thing I’d like to say from the heart. These improvements are not intended to force a specific meta or to achieve short-term results. In fact, this was an improvement we had given a lower priority to because we knew it would inevitably receive negative reactions. I hope we can convey, even just a little, that this was a difficult decision made to shape the fun of future progression and the overall quality of the game in a healthier direction.

We always want to deliver updates that satisfy everyone, but I know there is still much we can improve. Even so, I believe the game can continue moving in a better direction thanks to all the thoughtful feedback and support you’ve given us. We’ll work to refine things as quickly as we can and repay the trust you’ve placed in us.

Thank you.

Tomo
