Playtest Update v1.3.0 — Tutorial & Storms ⚓

Two of your oldest ledger complaints answered in one drop: "the tutorial is a wall of text" and "the storm looks like a whirlpool". Both got torn down and rebuilt. Thank you for every report — this patch is made of them.

🧭 The Guided Tutorial

  • Show, don't tell. The old text cards are gone. A new guided voyage walks you through everything hands-on: sailing the gears, reading the wind, every ammo type on a live target, docking for plunder, and the whole port — repair, module mounting, captain skills, crew

  • The full combat curriculum. It now teaches the deep cuts too: raking fire (swing behind her stern — shots through bow and stern bite deeper) and the ram (Gear 3, bow square into her hull). The lesson target is beefed up so you can practice every shot before she goes down

  • One lesson at a time. Each step highlights exactly the thing to touch and holds the door until the section is done. Replay it any time from the main menu — it farms nothing

⛈️ The Storm Rework

  • You hear it before you see it. The wind shifts and gusts rise, the swell builds, distant thunder rolls in from upwind — then the sky closes. No more surprise bolts

  • A living sky. Squalls now cover the whole map in a drifting cloud deck that sails on the actual wind. It builds from a pale overcast to a black ceiling — and the darker it gets, the faster and harder the lightning falls. Light clouds are a spectacle; a black deck is a warning

  • Storm cells. The big strikes brood inside dense cloud formations — never the same shape twice — crackling with discharge that pops on every side before the whole cell flashes at once. Sail out from under them; lingering inside costs hull

  • The storm brings its own wind — and when it passes, the wind rolls fresh. Sometimes the lull after is a dead calm. Mind your sails

🔊 The Mix

  • Cannons over music. Music now steps back during gameplay so your broadsides and the sea lead; it still owns the menu and the port. Cannon fire itself got real body

  • Storm audio re-ranked: thunder on top, waves carrying the storm, rain as a bed underneath — not a firehose

🛠️ Quality of Life

  • The compass tells the truth. Bigger, warmer loot blips (no more blue-on-blue), bigger island and enemy marks, and targets beyond reach are hidden instead of pinned to the rim pretending to be close. The painted chart face now survives Save & Quit

  • Muzzle flash fixed — the stray sliver that floated ahead of your cannons is gone

Take the tutorial even if you're a veteran — the raking lesson alone will change your broadsides. And when the sky goes black over a treasure hunt, tell us in the Discord how it felt.Fair winds! ⚓
