Hi detectives,
Update 0.9.0 is now live.
This is one of the biggest updates so far, introducing a new and much deeper threat to Greyford: serial killers.
These are not just normal culprits with a different label. Serial killers are persistent individuals with their own identity, behavior, signature, victim pattern, personality, rhythm, and history. They can return across multiple cases, evolve over time, mislead the investigation, and leave a lasting mark on your detective’s career.
Serial Killers Added
Serial killers can now appear during your investigations.
At first, a murder may look like a normal case. Only when another crime shares the same pattern or signature does the police begin to understand that something bigger may be happening.
Each serial killer has a recurring signature. This can involve the way they choose victims, the place or time they strike, the weapon they use, objects left at the scene, or other repeated details that connect the crimes.
The challenge is no longer only to solve one murder. Sometimes, you will need to recognize the pattern behind several crimes before more people become victims.
Persistent Killers with Unique Patterns
Each serial killer is built as a persistent individual, not a random one-time suspect.
They can have their own:
Motive
Psychological origin
Preferred victims
Signature
Profession
Appearance
Behavior during interrogations
Way of speaking
Level of self-control
Escalation pattern
There are an enormous number of possible combinations behind this system, allowing each serial killer to feel different from the others.
Some may target victims with a shared profession, age range, gender, workplace, surname initial, or other hidden connection. Others may deliberately include victims that seem not to fit the pattern, making the investigation more difficult.
Identity, Deception, and Investigation
Some serial killers may use false identities.
In these cases, they can appear under different names across different crimes, while still keeping deeper consistent traits such as face, body type, profession, behavior, or speech patterns.
This means players may need to look beyond the name and connect clues through behavior, physical details, victim selection, signatures, and interrogation patterns.
The investigative profile is not handed to you immediately. It is built gradually through the cases, revealing verified information little by little.
A Living Threat Across Your Career
Serial killers have their own rhythm.
Some may strike again quickly. Others may disappear for a while before returning. During these pauses, you will continue receiving normal murder cases, but the unresolved threat may still remain in the background.
Some killers may become more reckless over time. Others may grow colder, more controlled, or harder to read.
In certain situations, serial killers may even send letters to the police, creating tension and reminding you that the hunt is still not over.
Consequences Matter
Failing to catch a serial killer has consequences.
If the killer remains free, more victims can be added to the series. Wrong accusations, abandoned cases, missed patterns, and ignored clues can all affect how the story develops.
Catching the killer early matters. Interrogating them, identifying them as the main suspect, obtaining a confession, and preventing future victims can all influence the final evaluation.
If a serial killer is never caught, the case may eventually become a Cold Case, leaving only the information your investigation was actually able to uncover.
Improved Case Generation
Case generation has also been improved further.
The system has been refined to create cases that are more varied, more coherent, and more unique, helping investigations feel stronger and less repetitive.
The culprit’s personality modifiers are now also more visible, making both serial killers and normal culprits feel more distinct during the investigation.
Additional Fixes and Improvements
This update also includes several fixes and improvements:
Fixed an issue where suspect body appearance could sometimes change after loading, including details such as height and body type.
Fixed an issue where player notes could be deleted under certain circumstances.
Further improved case generation for better variety and consistency.
Final Notes
Update 0.9.0 is a major step toward making Greyford feel more dangerous, unpredictable, and alive.
Some cases may now be part of something much larger.
Some killers may return.
Some patterns may only become clear when it is already too late.
The hunt begins.
Thanks again for playing and for following the development.
