Update 5 — Easier Crafting and Equipment, Plus Night Raid and Display Improvements

About three months into Early Access, EXELIO is releasing its fifth update.

Update 5 tackles your feedback all at once: "I can't tell how many materials I need," "switching characters just to change my partner's gear is a hassle," "night raids feel slow," and "dark scenes are hard to see." From new features to display overhauls, these are the kind of changes that look minor on their own but add up to a noticeably better experience.

1. Added a "Required Materials" list to crafting screens

All 8 crafting screens now show each material's name, the amount required, and how many you currently hold, right in the detail card.

We received several reports of "I can't tell which materials I need or how many" and "I thought I'd gathered enough but came up short." From Update 5, selecting a recipe expands a list of required materials inside the detail card, and any material you're short on is shown in red. This covers all 8 screens: Handcraft, Workbench, Machine Tool, Kiln, Blast Furnace, Smithy, Cooking Pot, and Cauldron. It's now much easier to check everything you need before heading out to gather.

2. Edit the equipment and action slots of the character you're not controlling

Adjust Leon's equipment and action slots while controlling Serena, and vice versa.

Until now, if you wanted to change your partner's equipment or swap their action slots, you had to switch the controlled character first — which led to situations like "the moment a fight started, my partner had the wrong gear or a missing item swap." In Update 5, we've added Leon/Serena switch tabs to both the equipment panel and the action slots. Switching tabs does not change the character you control; only the display switches, so you can set up your partner remotely and then head into battle as your current character. The partner's equipment effects shown in the tab take effect the moment you switch to that character.

3. Night raid combat tempo, optimized

We adjusted the respawn point for defeated Exelgs to a more fitting location along their patrol path. The gaps between fights shrink, and the tempo of night raids tightens.

Previously, after you defeated an enemy, the next one had to walk back from the forest's entrance, leaving an idle stretch between fights. From Update 5, enemies now respawn at a more fitting position along their patrol path. The tension of defending stays unbroken, and you should be able to enjoy the dense, distinctive experience that night raids are meant to deliver.

4. Added screen brightness adjustment to Options

You can now adjust screen brightness with a slider in the Options screen.

Depending on your display type and how bright your room is, visibility in dark areas can vary. The slider adjusts brightness within a range of 0.5 to 1.5, and while adjusting, a dedicated confirmation screen is shown full screen so you can find the value that suits your setup. EXELIO has many dark scenes in caves and at night, so please set it to match your environment.

Other Improvements

  • When keyboard & mouse input is detected on the title screen, the controller-recommendation window is now shown every time. EXELIO strongly recommends playing with a controller. If you have one, please connect it before playing.
  • The key guide is now displayed full screen and supports a two-row layout so keys don't get cut off on screens with many inputs. The text is also slightly larger than before.

Alongside the above, this update bundles various minor adjustments and fixes.

About Three Months Since Early Access — 5 Updates and 2 Hotfixes

EXELIO launched into Early Access on March 5, 2026, and since then we've released Updates 1–5 and 2 Hotfixes.

The feedback you've given us has been taking shape, little by little, in ways like these.

  • Hard to spot danger zones because you can't see below the cliff → Scout Mode (pull the camera back and highlight dangers below in red)
  • The difficulty is too harsh → Added Story Mode
  • The game cycle is slow → Two-way teleportation devices
  • The depth of the controls doesn't come across → Technique explanation dialogs
  • I want to change the controller key configuration → Button remapping support
  • Parkour triggers unintentionally and combos are unclear → Detection review + Combo Guide GUI
  • Facility and trap placement is too restricted → Major easing of placement restrictions
  • And this time: the materials list, cross-character editing, night raid pacing, and brightness setting (plus the controller guide and key guide improvements)

It's a steady accumulation of small improvements, but we believe more and more of you can feel that "it's become much easier to play than before." If you've been watching from the sidelines, please try EXELIO as it is now.

The Next Step

A free demo is planned for this summer. It's currently in preparation.

The demo is planned to let you play the early part of EXELIO for free. We'll share details soon. We'd be glad if it gives those who've been watching a reason to give it a try.
