Demo Update #6

Worlds Upon The Wind Demo · published 58 days ago

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

This update brings many of the improvements that will be included in the upcoming 1.0 release. While there's no one main feature, there's a significant amount of new content, almost double the amount of music, and a lot of quality of life improvements.

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback - a lot of the improvements and bug fixes came from player suggestions!

New Content

  • Added 19 new events.
  • Added a couple dozen new glyphs.
  • Added about 20 new relics.
  • Added 5 new invocations.
  • Added a skill that allows settlements to overlap slightly.
  • Fleshed out the four monk orders. They each have a more clear theme now, wear differently colored robes, have their own lines, and feature their own event with 3 different relics.
  • Added many new Haven NPC lines.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Added 13 new Expedition music tracks.
  • Added custom music for each era transition cutscene.
  • Added custom Haven music for each era.
  • Added ambient audio effects to the Haven.
  • Added an option in the settings to have each settlement use a different color for its roofs.
  • Added the ability to rewatch intro and era transition cutscenes from the museum.
  • Added the ability to use player-drawn kanji instead of the default font for inscribed glyphs.
  • Added a minimize button to the Pick and Recall UIs.
  • Added a Glyph Details UI that allows you to more easily see glyphs referenced by invocations. If you have Japanese learning features enabled, this will also include vocabulary and sample sentences for the kanji.
  • Added tutorials that more clearly explain how shard cultures work.
  • Added a display of the total yields earned on the foray end screen.
  • Added tooltips for survey choices.
  • Added several missing sound effects, such as haunting triggers and shard culture history reveal.
  • Adjusted the introductory survey quest to not require returning to the hub.
  • Made pinning a shard culture adjust map generation to guarantee it being achievable.
  • Improved the layout of the foray goal tooltip to avoid covering the sites UI.
  • Improved glyph layout when having 20+ glyphs in hand.
  • Improved the animation of the site UIs.
  • Clarified that feedback reports are anonymous.
  • Clarified that clicking New Game creates a new save slot.
  • Stacked the deck slightly in the player's favor until the first survey.
  • Adjusted some hauntings that triggered on glyph played to be less confusing.
  • Separated the settings to enable the kanji practice minigame and the kanji drawing minigame.
  • Improved several development map sprites.
  • Improved several main story event backgrounds.
  • Slightly improved shard edge rendering (fewer pixelated and cut-off bits, but still imperfect).

Balance Adjustments

  • Adjusted the cost and effect amount of some survey preparation bonuses.
  • Reduced the cost and increased the effect of the Odd Statuette relic.
  • Adjusted the Messenger Tower development in the Hills to appear later in the main story.
  • Adjusted the second tier of the Longer Surveys skill to appear later in the main story.
  • Adjusted the Clay Teapot relic to only trigger off glyphs with Life essence.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the kanji drawing minigame always being enabled.
  • Fixed the glyph inscription quest starting out with one goal completed.
  • Fixed some cases of hanging on load on CPUs with many cores.
  • Fixed performance issues in the skills UI (mainly noticeable on Mac).
  • Fixed some cases of slow loading.
  • Fixed the Repaired Sandal relic doing nothing.
  • Fixed the Grain Token relic being negated by yield blessings.
  • Fixed the choice requirements in the Lotus Decision event.
  • Fixed the counter-intuitive tooltip delay slider direction in the setting menu.
  • Fixed the starter tutorial tooltips reacting to the cursor while the pause menu is up.
  • Fixed the goal order in the Paper Distributors shard culture being swapped.
  • Fixed the yield loss animation using a positive (green) outline.
  • Fixed numerous spelling and grammar mistakes.
