THE CROSSING

There was always a sea, and the game never once said what was on the other side of it. Five heroes have crossed it. They bring three schools nobody in the kingdom fights with, the first critical hits the game has ever had, and two countries that are on no map you have played. All of it is free, and so is everything else in this update.

🌀 Five Heroes From Across the Sea

Every school in the game was a resource or a slow burn. Nothing ever asked you to gamble. These five do nothing else.

  • Maddener Delirium — every Mutation she applies lands doubled, and she hits harder for every separate debuff on the enemy. She also fights under a permanent Flux: every swing she makes lands anywhere from half power to half again.

  • Exposer Lumen — the Exposed she inflicts primes two critical hits instead of one. Until the seam is open, she barely scratches.

  • Tempest Zephyr — a free dodge at the start of every fight, and everything that gets through him is permanently cut. He will never hit hard, and he does not need to.

  • Trickster Cyclone — play a Chaos card and an Air card in the same turn and he pays you a Mana and a card for it. Everything he builds wipes at the end of the turn.

  • Gale-Seer Prism — her crits land at double, and her Turbulent makes the enemy miss most of the time. Any turn neither of her statuses is live, she takes half again as much.

Three new schools: Chaos gambles, Lux exposes, Air denies. Six new statuses arrive with them — Confusion, Mutation, Flux, Exposed, Airborne and Turbulent. And the game has critical hits now. A crit starts at one and a half times damage and can reach two and a half. Sources never multiply together — the biggest one wins — so a crit is a decision you set up, not a pile of coincidences. It has its own hit on screen, sized by how big it landed. Two new countries — Riftmarch and the Sunlit Gyre — with twelve hazards of their own, two claim blessings and twenty-one new enemies living on them.

🃏 279 New Cards, and a Draft That Stops Repeating Itself

The heroes with the most personality had the least to draw. A hero from the Crossing could be offered 77 different cards where a knight could be offered 234 — so across a full run of card rewards, the thinnest heroes saw the same card come back nearly a third of the time.

  • 129 cards written for heroes who owned almost none. Runecaster, Soulflame, Stormpriest, Frostwarden, Bloodsworn and Voidpriest went from three cards of their own to sixteen each, and the Crossing and Scorching heroes did the same.

  • Thirty new cards that every god draws, so the Pantheon stops being the thinnest pool in the game.

  • A pack's commons belong to the pack now. Eighty-four commons that were locked to a single hero are shared with their packmates. Rares and legendaries keep their one owner — that is where a hero is actually read.

  • Repeats fall from about 30% of a run's offers to 15–20% for the heroes that had it worst.

One pool got smaller, deliberately. Base-game heroes were being offered the Scorching Region's cards — including Heat management for a hero with no Heat — two updates after that same hero stopped being able to reach the pack's countries at all. Those cards belong to the Scorching heroes, and that is where they stay.

📖 The Story, Told At Last

The kingdom fell, and the game had never once said how. A Story button now sits beside How to Play. Behind it: 119 pages across six chapters — The Past, The Cause, The Creation, The Enemies, The Allies, The Gathering — painted as a graphic novel, one line a page.

  • It unlocks by being read. No ash, no mastery, no run required, and where you stopped is where you resume.

  • The cast ages through it. A hero drawn in an early chapter is drawn as who they were then — the same portraits your own mastery earns, used as the book's clock.

🎨 It Does Not Look The Same

  • Your hero's portrait changes as you master them. Five paintings each, climbing with mastery — 180 of them, every hero, every rung. The game's longest progression finally shows somewhere you look.

  • Rarity has a frame. Every card wears painted framing art for its rarity, instead of four bracket shapes that differed by a colour and a few pixels.

  • A new opening. The intro is the whole roster flying past the camera, re-forming, climbing its mastery ladder, and standing aside while the bosses take the middle. Esc or Enter ends it, and holding Space runs it faster.

  • Enemies arrive like themselves and hit like themselves. A boss takes a slow summoning; an ordinary enemy simply walks on. A wolf bites, a swarm swarms, a magma golem lands as lava — sixteen ways to be hit instead of four.

  • Cards go where they say they go. Draw, discard, exhaust and anchor each fly to their own pile, instead of three of them landing in the middle of the same column.

  • Critical hits look like critical hits, and the hero and the enemy breathe.

🔨 The Forge Is A Loadout, Not A Shopping List

Every Forge item was pure upside, so the only question was what order to buy them in. They are six either/or pairs now, plus the Mana Crystal: the Body, the Purse, the Draft, the Opening, the Hoard, the Favor. You own both sides and you carry one, chosen per run and swapped for nothing.

  • Two new items close the pairs.Warden's Seal tilts relic drops toward rare and above; Pyre Tithe pays gold for every card reward you skip.

  • Three items printed exactly double what they gave. The card and the game read the same number now.

👑 And The Smaller Things

  • Every boss has a name. Fifteen of the nineteen were job titles. The last fight of a run is against Ossaren, Haldrec, Perenna or Noctra now, not against "Flame Tyrant".

  • Ossaren fights like the boss the game is named after. The Lord of Shadows was the weakest boss in it — ten others outranked him. He sits on a rank of his own now.

  • Day & Night has its own two schools. Its cards used to fill the Eclipse Charge and three Resonance bars at once, which billed one commitment twice. Dawn and Dusk are their own thing now, and the Eclipse spill is the payoff.

  • Your deck is on the map screen. A badge beside your purse opens the whole breakdown — cost curve, rarity, schools, what each card is for — and copies all of it out as text.

  • The Ascension screen shows the countries you can actually reach, instead of fifteen you cannot.

  • Miss chance adds up. Playing a 40% miss card on top of 40% evasion left you at 40%, while the log announced the full grant it had just thrown away.

  • Bounty contracts get two more turns at every level. The level that paid most also carried the shortest clock and the toughest quarry, so the purse read as a tax.

  • Owners of Overflow who were locked out of their own DLC are not any more. The ownership check could answer "no" while offline.

⚡ About The Six Locked Gods

Hestia, Khione, Ares, Demeter, Apollo and Athena are in the build and still locked. The GODS DLC is with Steam for review, so it cannot be bought yet — that is the store page running behind the update, not something wrong with your install. Zeus and Hades were always free and stay free, along with both Pantheon countries and all thirty of their enemies. Wishlist the DLC and you will hear the day it goes live.

📌 Before You Update

  • Ash, essence, Ascension, mastery, Forge levels, claims, riddle clears and card unlocks all carry over.

  • Your Forge is a loadout now. Everything you bought is still bought. Where you own both sides of a pair, the higher level is the one equipped, and you can swap it any time for free.

  • A run already in progress will load, but it keeps the board it was generated on. Finish it or forfeit it to see the new countries.

  • Day & Night decks will play differently. Those cards no longer charge three Resonance bars on top of the Eclipse Charge. Nothing is taken away — the spill was always the payoff.

  • Base-game heroes will see fewer Scorching cards, because they were being offered cards for a resource they do not have. The Scorching heroes gained 21 new ones in the same update.

  • The intro plays on launch. Esc or Enter ends it, and holding Space runs it at one and a half times.

  • You need no DLC for any of this. The Crossing, its five heroes, both its countries, the story and every card written for the base roster are base game.

Localized in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French, German and Russian.Update, and go and meet the five who crossed. Wishlist the GODS DLC for the other six. Balance shouting belongs in the Community Hub — fifty changes in this build came out of it.
