Brimir Update (v1028)
🏘 Midgar — The Town, Rebuilt From Scratch
We kept hearing that the town was large but empty. This time we rebuilt the whole thing.
- The map is 58% smaller. The long walk from end to end is gone — most of the town now fits on one screen
- Buildings now have a hierarchy. Temple, Guild, and Hideout are houses; Shop and Enchanter are market stalls on the plaza; Blacksmith, Relic Dealer, and Sky Merchant are open-air stands. Roof colors are distinct so you can tell what's what from a distance
- The Hideout is now the heart of town. It has a front yard and stands as a landmark
- The Monument of Legends now anchors the plaza. The fountain is gone and the space became a monument square — the monument itself was redrawn to read clearly head-on
- We planted trees. The bare ground is filled with tree clusters, with zones marked so they never crowd walkways or the plaza
- The pond and fishing spot were reworked. The water's edge follows a natural shape and the fishable range is wider
🌿 Condition — Going Home Is Free Now
- Returning to town no longer costs Condition. Neither leaving by choice nor being pushed out when time runs out charges you anything. Condition now drains only from time spent in the Deep Sea
- Entering town fully restores Condition. You no longer come home only to spend again just to head back out
- Because of that, tavern lodging is gone. It existed to buy Condition back with gold, and free recovery left it with nothing to do. The tavern keeper remains on the plaza to share old tales — the same place you unlock Codex lore
🏜 Floor 5, the Sundered Canyons — Actually Arriving This Time
- We announced this terrain rework last time, but a deployment failure rolled it back and it never reached anyone. This build finally delivers it
- The chain of brick chambers is gone, replaced by a cave region where four canyons radiate from a central altar. Each canyon is shaped after the force that fills it — the branching paths of flame, the frost hollow, the storm pillars, the maze of darkness
- Gatekeepers and tolls are abolished. The factions' voices and the tactical hints they gave now live on signposts at each canyon mouth
🧊 Floor 7, the Icicle Cave — New Terrain
- The Icicle Cave was redrawn as a true ice cavern. As its name promises, frozen waterfalls are the landmark of this floor. The route runs from the entrance to a great hall, splits left and right past their own Scars, and rejoins above — a full loop, so you never have to backtrack the way you came
- The floor is 2.4× larger. At first it was only a third the size of the neighboring Blizzard Plains and Ice Tomb, and you told us "the map is cramped and there are no monsters." We widened the walkable space and raised monsters from 26 to 40, matching the hunting density of the floors around it
- It looks like ice again. This was the only floor missing its color grade, so 71 and 73 read blue while 72 sat in the middle as a murky teal
🎆 Combat Visuals — 86% of Boss Patterns Now Have Art
- 174 of 203 boss patterns now have dedicated effects. You can see what's coming and react to it
- Passives show when they fire. Until now there was no signal beyond a small badge on the buff bar — you often couldn't tell they had triggered at all
- Impact effects fill the last beat of cast → travel → land
- Area attacks were hard to read. We made them 45% larger, shaped them as the circle the hit actually uses, and drew the outline they never had
- The rune absorption effect was drawn in the world behind the victory screen where nobody could see it — it now plays over the card
🔧 Bug Fixes
- Fixed a progression blocker where leaving the Sanctuary dropped you outside the walls with no way back
- Fixed characters appearing through building roofs
- Fixed rare monster clues spawning inside rock, making them impossible to claim
- Fixed Overcharge doing nothing for the pilgrim — it was applying only to companions
- Fixed Skadi's Absolute Zero almost never triggering. It should freeze on her first strike, but if the enemy was already under another status at that moment, the effect was consumed on the attempt and never returned for that fight. It now waits until the freeze actually lands — once per battle, guaranteed
- Fixed floors rendering with another floor's terrain art. Floor 5 and the Icicle Cave were wearing each other's palettes
⚖️ Balance · Quality of Life
- Skadi's stat spread changed. Strength and Fortitude became Strength, Agility, Magic, and Fortitude. Her frost dual-blade build had too few usable lower-tier runes, leaving the early stretch empty — we grew Strength/Magic hybrid runes from 21 to 30 and filled the ladder down to entry tiers. (We failed to mention this in the last patch notes)
- Floor 7 soul stone drops now follow monster tier. Only the ice region had been tuned; the Wailing Marsh and Dark Lands paid the same whether you killed a tier 4 or a tier 7. Depth is now rewarded properly
- The Blood River now tells you why it stops you. The rivers in the Dark Lands can't be crossed without a high enough ship, but nothing said so — you couldn't tell a wall from unfinished ground. It now shows which ship you need, and the shipyard descriptions state how far upstream each one can sail
- Gamepad navigation refined. Fixed cases where pressing a direction wouldn't move to a button, such as in shops
Thank you for continuing the pilgrimage. Your reports carried this update again — that the Icicle Cave felt cramped, that the terrain colors looked wrong, that Skadi's freeze wasn't landing. Every one of those came from you first.
