Devlog #4 | Creating a Legacy

Its been a while between updates, at least it feels like it to me. To be honest I got distracted by shiney things, and developed a little bit of cold feet on releasing this game...

Not because I'm worried about the state of the game or its quality or anything, but for a solo not-a-developer, starting out with a cross platform MMO may have been, in hindsight, not the easiest idea to try first... particularly in terms of community management.

A big part of what makes these auto battler/fight management games great is the community interactions.. I work full time and am building this simply because I love creating things, and my time and energy to manage a large community is pretty limited.

So to be honest, I did contemplate pulling this completely and not launching it... but... thanks to all of you that have wishlisted so far, Im going to put my big boy pants on and get it done.

I am going to go for a silent launch though.. I wont have a discord or anything setup for the community, and will use the steam forums for any feedback or bug fixes etc. and who knows, maybe the community will grow and start its own, or I will find a sudden rush of inspiration to spend all my spare time reading support messages.

we will see how it goes I guess... theres a fair chance 0 people will ever read this, and my worries on disappointing people wont be a worry at all. anyway.. to the fun stuff...

Steam is giving me alerts that my release date is less than 3 weeks away, and I'd really like to hit that deadline, so this will be the last blog before launch.... probably

and there is one feature of the game that Im really proud of that i think will be a lot of fun, the Legacy System...

There is 2 PvE modes in the game... The Shattered Ascent, and the Lair of Legends.

  • Shattered Ascent is a 10 floor, 100 fight tower, with increasing difficulty and rewards the higher you go. Its not progressed locked, so you can fight the 10th floor boss as your first fight if you want (Its "Player vs Environment"... why should I care how you want to play?)

  • Lair of legends is 5 single boss fights, that change weekly, that you can farm for item sets.

The Legacy system comes in regarding these "Bosses"... each month there is Permadeath tournaments run for maxed out Godslayer fighters. The losers of these tournaments will die, and will no longer be available to the player... but... they will then be added to "The Fallen" leaderboards, with the top 50 Fallen becoming a random selection that populates the floor bosses in the Shattered Ascent.

There is also a retirement function, where you can retire a maxed out Godslayer fighter, for permanent account buffs, like loot drop increases or fight archetype rerolls etc. Retrired fighters are then added to the "Legends" leaderboard... and become the bosses in the Lair of Legends.

This creates a pretty cool endgame loop, players will hopefully be inspired to risk or retire their end game fighters, and new bosses will be continuously added to the game from the best player builds, keeping the challenge fresh and interesting, for hopefully a very long time.

I cant think of a clever way to end this blog, so have this sentence instead.

Major update4 Sep 2026Embrace the Complexity OverhaulWhen I built this game I was working on the idea that not knowing all the detail was part of the fun.. My theory was, that it gives players a little bit of wonder around what exactly their fighters are doing, and the opportunity to craft their own narratives around the mechanics of the game.... which I have personally really enjoyed in other games. I also had a little fear of people working out…Gods Shall TrembleGame update29 Aug 2026Tourneys and scrollinghuge updates of some minor UI things no one will probably ever notice. The Standard Tournaments now have improved styling and actually fill out the brackets with results, and the sell tab in the market is now scrollable... thanks for listening.Gods Shall TrembleGame update28 Aug 2026Shattered Ascent - UI bug fixThe loot modal was appearing instantly on a winning fight int he Shattered Ascent, now its not.. you can still skip, to well, skip...
