When I built this game I was working on the idea that not knowing all the detail was part of the fun.. My theory was, that it gives players a little bit of wonder around what exactly their fighters are doing, and the opportunity to craft their own narratives around the mechanics of the game.... which I have personally really enjoyed in other games.
I also had a little fear of people working out the meta and the game losing all its fun due to being "solved", but then i remembered there is literally millions of combos, so good luck with that...
So.. With all of that in mind, I have come to the realisation, that the fun in this game, and what makes it different to the rest, is the complexity. There is a hell of a lot going on under the hood that contribute to your fighters effective stats, and they also change dynamically through out a fight based on dynamic fight effects (stamina drain, perks/set bonuses, arena effects etc).
So I've completely flip flopped on my approach, and instead decided to embrace the complexity. The detailed spreadsheet management is a big part of what makes the game different, so now there is full visibility of your fighters, how the choices you make affect their performance, and what is happening to their performance at every stage of a fight.
Added a new fighter "Dashboard" in the fighter details screen
50+ new stats that show your effective values after all multipliers have been applied
Revamped UI in the battle screen with Stats/Log window
Switch between dynamic fight narratives, or detailed statistical views
Fight statistics now show your current stats that update each turn based on dynamic stamina and arena effects
Added fight speed options, watch in real time, or speed it up 4x to watch in fast forward
Added "End fight" button so fights don't automatically close, to give you time to review stats and logs as you choose.
As always, let me know if there's any ideas, improvements, hopes, dreams or preferences you have for the game and I will probably jump at the chance to completely change everything I've done based on minimal feedback that sparks fun ideas.
Thanks!
