Agari: what's new (1.12.1 to 1.13.0)

A summary of what's changed since the last patch notes. This one is mostly under the hood.

  • Match Replays now work for every online match. Previously only the host recorded enough detail to replay an online round. Now every completed round is replayable from History no matter who hosted, as long as you were connected for it. Matches recorded before this update stay viewable in the ledger but can't be replayed.

  • Online networking architecture change. Previous versions of Agari used a peer-to-peer WebRTC mesh for online play, which worked well on rock-solid connections but suffered on finicky ones. The new WebSocket-based networking architecture greatly reduces complexity under the hood and makes online play far more robust. Brief network blips no longer drop players. If a longer disruption is detected, a CPU player steps in to cover the seat so the table keeps moving, and the player can reclaim it if they reconnect in time. We've updated our Privacy Policy to reflect the change to our networking architecture: https://agari.app/privacy/

This release also includes faster discard feedback online, quieter reconnect messaging, several rejoin fixes, and a long list of smaller stability improvements. The match still ends for everyone if the host disconnects, since the host runs the game itself; host recovery is on my list.

Thank you so much for playing Agari and for all of your feedback and suggestions.
