Demo V0.64: Make more time for handheld games during your shift

Night Portable Demo · published 13 hours ago

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

The Night Portable demo has been updated to V0.64.
Based on gameplay videos and player feedback, this update brings changes to the handheld games, the tutorial, and UI readability.

The main idea is simple: play a little, get back to work, then pick up where you left off.
These changes are designed to make earning items more manageable while you keep up with your duties and watch your surroundings.

Main changes

Pause and resume your handheld games
During your shift, all three handheld games now retain your score, lives, and progress when you put the device away. You can also return to the same run and work toward the bonus reward after collecting the basic reward. A brief preparation period when resuming gives you time to check the situation and get ready to move. The shift continues while a handheld run is suspended.

Recover lives as the night progresses
At each hour from 1:00 to 5:00 AM in game, each ongoing run recovers one life, up to a maximum of three. Suspended runs recover lives too. If you lose all your lives, that run ends and cannot be resumed. Trying again starts a new run from the beginning with three lives, and the new run is still eligible for hourly life recovery.

Basic rewards are a little easier to reach
Basic reward score requirements during your shift have been reduced by 10%.

Bonus reward score requirements are unchanged.

Listen for the hourly clock chime
A clock chime now marks each passing hour during your shift. You can hear it while playing a handheld game, helping you keep track of the night without checking the clock.

Please note: resuming runs and hourly life recovery apply during your shift, not during tutorial practice. Progress is retained only within the same night of the current play session; it does not persist after quitting the game. Each game's basic and bonus rewards can each be collected once per night.

Controls, readability, and bug fixes

  • Reworked and shortened the handheld game tutorial to explain the updated rules, with clearer wording and control prompts for new players.
  • Slightly increased the Block Breaker paddle's movement speed and addressed cases where the ball repeatedly bounced horizontally or vertically without making useful progress.
  • Enlarged the pause menu's controls panel and improved the readability of flash prompts, item descriptions, and notifications such as the resume message.
  • Removed the unnecessary startup message. The basic reward prompt now appears only when a reward is ready to collect.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause cracks on the handheld screen to disappear under certain conditions.
  • Fixed the brightness dropping too low when restoring default options. Increasing brightness now preserves the image's contrast better, without the previous washed-out appearance.

Thank you for playing and sharing your feedback.
If the previous demo left you feeling that there was no time to use the handheld, we hope this update makes it easier to give the games another try between your duties.
