Hi everyone, 😄

Thank you very much for all the feedback, reports, and suggestions you have continued to share with us.

This update focuses on performance improvements for larger late-game save files, especially in factories with many Boxes, items, machines, workers, monitors, and active production systems.

We also want to say thank you to the players who helped by sending reports and save files related to large factory performance. These reports are very helpful because they allow us to check real player layouts and optimize based on actual gameplay conditions.

This update includes improvements for Box stack cleanup, saving, loading, Main Menu handling, and several systems that can become heavier as factories grow larger.

Performance optimization is an ongoing part of development. The impact may vary depending on each save file, factory layout, number of Boxes and items, active machines, workers, monitors, and device specifications. We will continue monitoring reports and continue optimizing areas that still need improvement.

With that in mind, here is what is included in this update.

Main Updates

1. Automatic Box Stack Cleanup on Loading

Large Box stacks can now be cleaned up automatically when loading a save file.

This cleanup applies to:

  • Supply Area

  • Cold Storage

If the game detects a very large and messy Box pile in these areas, the Boxes will be reorganized into cleaner stacks before the player enters the world.

No Boxes are removed by this process. The Boxes are only moved and arranged more neatly.

Because the cleanup arranges Boxes into tighter stacks, some piles may look smaller after loading. This does not mean the Boxes were deleted. They have only been reorganized into a more compact stack.

After loading finishes, the game will also show a notification with the number of Boxes that were arranged, so players can understand what happened during loading.

This cleanup runs when loading a save file. If new large piles are created during gameplay, they will be handled the next time the save is loaded.

This should help reduce messy Box piles in large saves while also supporting performance improvements for factories with many stacked Boxes.

2. Faster Save, Load, and Main Menu Handling

Save, load, and Main Menu handling have been optimized for larger save files.

Saving large factories should now feel faster and more stable, especially in saves with many Boxes and active systems.

Loading large saves has also been improved. The game now handles the loading process more efficiently so the save can become playable more smoothly.

A freeze that could happen after loading has also been addressed.

Main Menu handling has also been improved for players with multiple save files. Previously, the game could spend too much time reading save information when entering or returning to the Main Menu. Save slot information is now handled more efficiently, helping the menu open more smoothly.

After this update, the first Main Menu load may still need to refresh older save information once. After that, the menu should open more smoothly.

The save file format has not changed. Existing save files can still be loaded.

3. Smoother Gameplay in Large Factories

Several systems have been optimized to reduce unnecessary repeated work during gameplay.

Text, labels, and machine monitors now update more efficiently. Instead of refreshing repeatedly when nothing has changed, they can now avoid unnecessary updates until their displayed information actually needs to change.

This applies to several display-related systems, such as machine screens, Box labels, and rack information.

Distant monitors and screens are also handled more efficiently. Some monitors or screens that are far away may stop updating until the player gets closer. They may also not be interactable from far away.

This is part of the optimization to reduce unnecessary rendering and interaction checks in large factories. Players can move closer to read or interact with those screens again.

Dense Box stacks are also handled more efficiently. Very dense piles that are already stable should no longer create as much unnecessary physics load during normal gameplay.

Worker task checking has also been optimized. Workers should no longer repeatedly check the same information as often when looking for tasks, helping reduce extra processing in factories with many active workers.

Box visuals are now reused more efficiently instead of being recreated too often. This helps reduce unnecessary work when Boxes are being moved or handled repeatedly.

Together, these changes are intended to make larger factories feel smoother, especially when many Boxes, machines, monitors, workers, and production systems are active at the same time.

Technical Improvements

1. Machine Box Animation Handling

Box opening and closing animation handling on machines has been adjusted internally.

The animation is intended to remain visually the same, while being handled more efficiently through script-based control.

This is a technical adjustment and should not change the intended gameplay behavior.

Performance Notes

This update improves several performance-heavy areas, but it does not mean every possible bottleneck has been fully solved.

Very large or unusual factory layouts may still have areas that need further optimization, especially if they contain extreme Box or item piles, many active systems, or very dense production layouts.

Some distant monitors or screens may stop updating until the player gets closer. This is intentional and helps reduce unnecessary work in large factories.

Automatic Box cleanup also only runs when loading a save file. It does not continuously reorganize Boxes during active gameplay.

We will continue monitoring performance reports after this update and will continue optimizing if we find other areas that need further work.

Thank you again for your continued support, reports, and feedback.

Large save performance is an important part of development as factories continue to grow, and the reports you send help us identify real cases that need attention.

If you encounter performance issues or unexpected behavior, please report them through the in-game Bug Report Menu and/or the Steam Discussions so we can investigate further.

See you in the next update! 🥗🚚
