Short update for those of you who areen't over in the Discord server yet:
I have to rewrite the game in the Godot 4 engine.
I know, right? Basically, there's a problem between the Steam Input API and Godot where the newest builds are now crashing whenever a controller is connected. Which is... less than ideal for a project like Cats vs Aliens, where like 50% of my goal is to make something that's been created with Steam Deck Verification as a primary consideration.
I've been working with the author of the build of Godot that integrates Steam directly into the engine, but this isn't the first time I've spent days (and days and days and days) tracking down the beefs between Steam and Godot and forcing them to sit in the corner until they play nice.
And frankly, I'm tried of that shenanigans, folks, so I'm going to bite the extra large, bitter-tasting bullet and rebuild the game in the newest version of the engine, where I hope that these issues will cease to cause a game-busting experience for you all.
Wish me speed and luckl!
(You know, when the game works again... ːsteamfacepalmː)
