Hospital Update 0.11 – now live!

The Hospital Update (Version 0.11) is now live!

This update further emphasises the focus on the daily lives of soldiers on the Western Front and the dangers they face, even outside of battle. Injuries can now vary greatly in their progression. Living conditions at the front give rise to all kinds of diseases and their consequences. Doctors and nurses in the field hospital do their utmost to prolong the soldiers’ lives with the few resources at their disposal, only to see the war put those lives at risk again the very next day.

After the battle, combat now transitions into a post-battle phase, during which equipment must be recovered, identity discs of the fallen collected, and further tasks completed. Visual rework and additional content further enhance this experience.

The core features of this update are:

  • New field hospital system with complications and additional forms of disablement

  • Complete reworking of injuries

  • Diseases that can occur in certain game situations

  • New game content during and after the battle

  • New journal entries on death, physical and mental illness, and disablity

  • Redesign of the field hospital’s appearance and further visual adjustments

In our Dev Diaries, we delve deeper into the new content:

For anyone who still wants to finish their current playthrough: Version 0.10 remains available via Steam Beta. As save files are not compatible across versions, you can continue your current game there.

We wish you impressive, moving and exciting experiences with the new update!

Patch Notes 0.11.0

Features

  • Added new Field Hospital System

    • Introduced complications (e.g. shortness of breath, gangrene, nausea, pain, pneumonia, etc.): their individual recovery times, mortality risk and disability risk now determine the progression of illnesses and injuries

    • Soldiers can now be manually sent to the field hospital and, under certain conditions, discharged early

    • New projects to support soldiers in the field hospital

    • Soldiers can now become unfit for duty due to amputation, blindness, deafness and more

  • Added new Injury System

    • Injuries are now defined by location and type (e.g. gash to the torso or shrapnel wound to the leg)

    • Injuries have varying effects, reduce soldier efficiency and can cause complications

    • Possibility of work-related accidents

  • Introduced Diseases

    • Certain in-game conditions (delayed latrine duty, delayed trench drainage, insufficient supplies, rats, lice, etc.) increase the likelihood of diseases occuring

    • Diseases such as trench fever, tuberculosis, dysentery, minor infections (and trench foot) each have their own course of progression and add different complications

    • Lice and tuberculosis can spread among soldiers

    • Delousing is now a regular part of soldier life

  • Visual improvements and redesign of the field hospital's appearance

    • New assets (e.g. first aid kits, bandages, vials)

    • New layout variations and dynamic visualization of field hospital capacity

    • Additional nurses and doctors

    • New animations

    • Dirt and blood on clothing

  • New gameplay content in the Battle phase

    • After a victorious battle, players remain on the battlefield for several turns

    • Identity discs of fallen soldiers, food supplies and materials can be collected

    • New Leutnant tasks: capturing prisoners and driving enemies out of trenches

  • Additional content added

    • 15 new journal entries covering topics such as death, physical and mental illness, disablement and more

    • Additional projects, a new loading screen, and historical tooltips

    • Existing content updated to integrate with the new systems

Improvements

  • Loot spots are now randomized

  • Added more assets for loot spots

  • Minor adjustments to NPC troop logic in battle

  • Removed limitation allowing only one “Memory Event” per fallen soldier

  • Weather can now change during the trench phase

  • Reduced intervals between weather changes

Balancing

  • Rebalanced Physical Condition (formerly Fitness) and Exhaustion

    • Physical Condition can now improve or decline much faster

    • Rested soldiers gain Physical Condition

    • Complications reduce Physical Condition and increase Exhaustion

    • Exhaustion in trenches should now be reduced

    • Consequently, recovery at camp should be a bit slower

    • Weather now affects Exhaustion in trenches as well (previously did not)

    • Exhaustion per turn in battle reduced (to compensate for extended post-victory phase)

  • Reduced chances of injuries in trenches and battle (as injuries are now generally more severe)

  • Revised amount of loot from individual loot spot

  • Increased maximum combat width

  • “Out of Formation” and “Too Far Back” attributes are now inactive after battle

  • Reworked formula for field hospital capacity changes after battle

  • Karrsbruck now grants longer rest periods after heavy losses in battle

  • Karrsbruck now delays or cancels trench rotations if too few soldiers are available

  • Karrsbruck now always allows rest if only three or fewer soldiers are available
