Demo Out Now!

Trees Hate You Demo · published 24 Apr 2026, 23:56 UTC

In time for the game's inclusion in the Wishlisted showcase, I'm excited to share a demo of Trees Hate You. Although many have already been sharing their playthroughs of a version of the demo that I put on Itch a while back, this is its first time being public here on Steam. The demo covers the first chapter of a horrible adventure. Design a character (or not), and then escape this awful forest while trying to avoid a variety of traps.

Challenge Mode

One new thing with this Steam version of the demo is a Challenge Mode that you unlock after completing the demo normally. This challenge mode differs from a normal playthrough in a few ways:

  • Every trap is out from the start, with no changes when you respawn.

  • Certain randomized events are seeded so that they can play out in a more predictable way.

  • Extra traps are sprinkled throughout the levels to make some maneuvers a bit harder.

Overall, this should allow for a trickier, but fairer playthrough more ideal for things like speedrunning.

What's Next?

I'm sorry I don't have localizations ready yet. Right now the demo is only in English, so I'll try to add support for other languages soon.

Besides that, I'll be focusing my attention back on the later chapters. I still have a lot more surprises planned, with new areas and trees to terrorize you in their own ways. I'm still not sure when exactly the full game will release. This project blew up way bigger than I could have imagined (Thanks everyone who has been sharing their early demo playthroughs, or recommending the demo to others), so I'll try to share more details about the plan going forward as soon as I can.
