Soldiers! It's time to march. You can enlist in the Valor Mortis playtest to get first access to the game right now. Sign-up at the Firstlook website and you’ll get a Steam key to play the pre-alpha build.

If you have only signed up through Steam's playtest feature, you'll get access to the game on October 8.

Updates from the gamescom build

When we announced Valor Mortis, we also started bringing the game to live events. We were at gamescom in Germany, PAX West in the United States and Tokyo Game Show in Japan. We have added requested features and adjusted other aspects of the build based on their feedback. Let us know what you think so that we can decide what to add next.

  • Localization in simplified 15 languages

  • Field of view slider

  • Keyboard remapping and multiple controller presets

  • Changes to game balance and enemy locations

Minimum Specs and Settings

We have also done additional testing to identify minimum specs and settings for the playtest build. This is just a pre-alpha version so we know it won’t be perfect. The game won’t be releasing until next year and we admit that the performance and optimization isn’t that great right now. It’s one of the areas that we plan to improve as we continue in the dev process.

Despite this being so early in development, getting the game in your hands to hear your feedback is a top priority of our studio. So please let us know how the game runs on your devices to help us continue working on it!

We want your feedback!

We will be looking at feedback in every channel we can. Whether it’s here on the Steam forums, on our subreddit, in our Discord server or elsewhere. We want to make sure that the game feels fair, rewarding and fun to play.

Thank you for helping us improve Valor Mortis. We really can’t wait to show you a whole new way to play a soulslike.

Known issues

  • Hardware is not automatically detected so graphical presets and settings may need to be changed manually

  • After changing to a different gamepad control preset, the pause menu and tutorials may show the default control preset

  • Issue with shader compiling and PSO may cause poor performance on first instance booting up the game

  • Low visual quality graphical preset may be darker than intended

  • FOV issues may arise when looking down at the player character

  • Player hands may clip into the ground during the death and respawn animations

  • Camera may clip into the ground in the player death animation

  • Tutorials may stay active after completion

  • Fourlegs enemy animations have not been finalized. We know some of them look bad

  • Fourlegs enemy may stop attacking the player

  • Enemies may launch themselves when performing the same attack next to each other

  • May lose ability to climb on a moving cart after respawn

  • Can get stuck in inventory when mashing item use

  • Boss may stop attacking the player

  • Enemy corpses may disappear under the ground

  • It is possible to get stuck behind the tent where the player obtains the pistol

  • Controls may stop working after leaving the game to the main menu. If this happens, please start a new game,

  • Keybinds cannot be changed in the main menu settings. To change them, start the game and edit in the pause menu settings
