Last week, we talked about the first pillar of Rocket Engineer– its physics, which is the driving force behind the rockets.
This week, we will talk about colonies, the second pillar of Rocket Engineer. Colonies are the first thing you’ll interact with, as your launch site itself is one. When you start, you will have to place your command center, which will act as the core of your colony and define the available building range. Then, you will likely build liquid and solid storage, an assembly storage to store your rockets, a VAB to build your designed rockets, and eventually a launchpad. Note that you will have to order resources to be able to fuel the rocket once it’s on the pad.
On Earth, as it is already (somehow) inhabited (somewhere), essential resources and buildings can be purchased.. However, as you expand elsewhere, resource management will be crucial. Buildings will have to be built from resources, and so will rockets. But we’ll touch on that next week, with a focus on resources!
Furthermore, any building task requires astronauts or workers. Hence, habitats and a constant supply of food and water are required. This should motivate you to make your colonies as sustainable as possible. But more on that will follow in the coming weeks too.
With this, see you next week!
