EA1.0.1 Patch Notes and an Update on Future Plans

Rocket Engineer · published

Hi everyone, a patch has just been pushed with a few fixes (see the end of the message for the complete changelog), but I wanted to take the time to explain the current plans now that the game has been released.

First off, thank you so much to everyone who played, left a review, gave suggestions, and submitted bug reports. It really helps the game, and I am already logging all these bugs and suggestions. The reception has been incredible, and I did not expect this many players to be playing the game for so long.

Obviously, the game still has issues. The way information is communicated through the UI can be drastically improved, and I do plan to rework the UI in depth for the upcoming major update. Before that, I will be taking the time to work on smaller suggestions that don't necessarily depend on other systems. Here's a small list of some things I should be able to get done over the next few weeks that have not been included in today's patch:

  • Add the ability to delete buildings

  • Add the ability to disable SAS

  • Pause the game while in the quick menu

  • Add the ability to quickly revert to launch or the designer

  • Add shortcuts to quickly save/load

  • Add an indication of how long the currently stored water/food will last

  • Add the ability for the colony to hibernate and not consume food/water

  • Add a recover button on Eraki

  • Add the settings UI to the rocket designer

  • An engine under another engine should not be able to receive fuel or be powered

  • Add the ability to quickly switch between rockets

Alright, next topic. In earlier announcements, I said I was planning to add Ruo (Mars analogue)-related content. However, a lot of the feedback on features that need to be implemented fits with the upcoming major update. Hence, this content is now planned to come with this major update, and I hope to be able to finish it sooner than initially planned as I believe playability is much more important at the game's current state.

About that next major update, you can expect the solar system to scale up sufficiently so that getting to orbit feels more challenging. However, keep in mind that a smaller scale than SFS (1:20) or KSP (1:10) is desirable for colony-focused gameplay, especially to keep this content accessible. Currently, Eraki's (Earth analogue) radius is 1,500 m, which is approximately 1:4000. I do not know yet what the new scale will be, as it will need to be playtested, but I will update you on that as soon as I can.

Another feature coming is a drastic improvement to the map. Trajectories will be fully drawn even around bodies you do not currently orbit, and there will be many more trajectory-planning tools. If you have suggestions related to that, or features you'd like to see in the map view, do not hesitate to write a suggestion.

If things scales up, Rebalancing of all masses and thrust values will be necessary. You can also expect more information about your rocket in the designer and in flight, such as TWR, dV, etc. Finally, there will be two new celestial bodies added. I will share more about this update when the time comes.

Thanks a lot for following the development and playing the game. If you have played it, don't hesitate to leave a review. It truly helps.

On that note, here's the changelog for ea1.0.1:

  • Added a binding to increase timewarp speed

  • Added a binding to decrease timewarp speed

  • Added a binding to reset timewarp speed

  • Added a binding to activate parts in a stage

  • Added the ability to timewarp while controlling a landed rocket

  • Added the ability to click on a stage button to activate the linked part

  • Fixed a typo in the tooltip appearing when trying to hire a worker

  • Fixed the discard resource button only being enabled if a destination was selected, even though selecting a destination is not required

  • Changed the map background color to black

  • Changed the stage numbering order

  • The hydrogen engine is now locked until a resource processing task has been started (If you have a current save, just start a resource task that produce hydrogen and it will be unlocked)
