Crafting the Story of Ecumene Aztec

Greetings, warriors and wanderers!

As our journey into the heart of Ecumene Aztec continues, it’s time to offer a peek behind the curtain—into the world of narrative design.

Into the Fire: Research Begins

We’re diving deep into the vibrant world of the Aztec Empire—not as ruins, but as it truly was: alive, spiritual, dangerous. Our references include the Codex Mendoza, Codex Borgia, and The True History of the Conquest of New Spain. Each is a window into another time.

Writing a narrative in this world means more than just getting the facts straight. It means feeling the world as it once was—and making it work within a game that demands stealth, action, and survival.

A Character Transformed

Our protagonist begins as a low-caste sacrifice. But his name, like his role, will evolve. Revenge, rebirth, and a world on fire—he walks a path from nobody to someone far more… fearsome.
We’ve detailed his backstory, look, weapon preferences—even whether he’s the type to gamble or pray. This is personal storytelling in a very impersonal world.

What’s Next?

The narrative backbone is almost complete. We’re finalizing the dialogue systems and planning key emotional moments… An exciting time lies ahead – the story is beginning to take an intriguing shape.
We’re working with consultants: Polish writer Michał Gołkowski, author of a book series set in the waning days of Aztec civilization.
Additionally, we’re collaborating with Osvaldo Alexis Zúñiga Elizalde, a native Nahuatl speaker who serves as our cultural consultant on Aztec heritage.

Final Thoughts

Being a Narrative Designer means balancing history, emotion, gameplay, and myth. In Ecumene Aztec, we’re not just writing a script — we’re shaping a legend.

See you in the jungle. Or the temple. Or maybe at the altar with a fresh heart in the hand?
