Spellfall: Last Mage Standing Playtest · published
In this patch we’re honing in on ability responsiveness by adjusting how animations interact with casting.
Previously, when a player pressed an ability hotkey, the spell would fire early in the animation, usually between 0.2 and 0.8 seconds depending on the skill. The animation would then continue to play all the way through before the player could cast again. Visually this looked nice and showed the full motion of the cast, but it locked players out of their next input for too long.
If you tried to cast another ability while the animation was still finishing, it could feel like the hotkey didn’t register instead of simply waiting on the animation to complete.
With this update, the animation lock is removed as soon as the spell has been cast. Pressing a hotkey will still begin the animation and lock in the spell until it fires, but once it does, you are free to immediately cast your next ability. The animation can continue playing visually, but it no longer blocks your input.
Casting now feels much more responsive and your hotkey presses line up with what you expect to happen on screen.
Alongside the casting changes, the UI has received a button polish pass to give menus a cleaner and more refined look.
