v1.4.001 — New lighting, and people who move more like people

New Game+ - Game Store Simulator Playtest · published

The store is lit like a photograph

  • New tonemapper. Highlights roll off instead of clipping, so the light covers stop rendering as flat white rectangles.
  • The ceiling is lit. It was a cream ceiling that nothing lit, so it read as a black void. Every fixture now throws its upward half too, and the room reads taller.
  • Indirect light: small-scale colour bleed, red shelving onto the carpet, cream wall onto the cubby fronts.
  • Real morning sun through the storefront. It genuinely reaches the floor now.
  • Eye adaptation. Look out at the street and the camera adjusts, the way it would.
  • One tube at the back stutters now and then. It's meant to.
  • Lights are about 10% brighter than the first pass.

People move like people

  • Customers start and stop walking properly. The step into a walk and the settle out of it were in the game all along and had never once played.
  • No more frozen legs at the shelf. Reaching mid-stride used to lock the legs wherever the step happened to be.
  • They look at the shelf they're reaching into, instead of straight ahead.
  • Staff walk at the speed they're actually moving instead of skating, and stop flickering between walk and idle in a crowd.
  • Your own hands lag the camera slightly, and a held game sways when you turn. Doors ease open instead of swinging at a constant rate.

Sound

  • The vacuum has a real motor: it spins up, runs for as long as you're using it, and winds down when you stop.

Graphics options

  • New Display settings: VSync, FPS limit, render scale, and an upscaler choice (TAA or AMD FSR 2.2).
  • An Ultra tier for reflections and softer shadows, opt-in — the default tier's frame time is unchanged.
  • Inspect Focus Blur can be turned off under Accessibility.

Fixes

  • Right-clicking a game you're carrying no longer acts like a trade-in and ask you to grade something you already own. Inspecting in hand and grading at the counter are separate now, and a prompt tells you the option exists.
  • Grade examples appear on the grade buttons themselves, much larger and instantly — and discs finally get them too. They never had a visual reference before, which is why a scratched CD could read as mint.
  • Dragging up in the inspection turns the item up, matching the repair bench.
  • Paint mode no longer leaves a wall panel stuck highlighted in yellow after you leave.
  • V actually toggles grid snap while placing furniture.
  • Rain days have rain. The particles were being created somewhere they could never be seen.
  • Smudges on the glass, and rain streaks on the storefront windows while it's raining.
  • Smaller download — about 85MB of developer notes were shipping inside the build.
